I'd seriously consider an 03+ V6 Accord Coupe.. Sounds like it would fit the bill and you get most of the good stuff.

i bought a 2002 CL-P and dont regret it. however, i'm not into racing and have not done anything to the engine, not even an air filter; 100% stock. it runs very quiet and smooth, just like the day i bought it (in 2003).

my CL has sufficient power for daily street driving, which is needed every now and then, especially in the crazy streets of Miami.

if i wanted to go for speed, i would NOT have bought the CL; it's heavy and worst of all, FWD.

Brown wood looks like crap, so get a 2003 CL-S 6spd with black interior.

like i said, i dont race. only occasion was when i toasted a civic, but only because i was late to work that morning.

from what i've seen on this site, the "S" is slightly faster than the "P" in the 1/4 mile.

The type P is only an average car speed wise in the modern day market. 225hp is average in terms of cars now adays.

You won't be leaving many cars in the dust with a 16 second car.

alright ok, point noted, so basically the thing is..i would buy a new TL right now, but im about to go back to college in august, and i know if i buy any car its going to get hit in the parking lots at USC, so i'd rather just have a decent CL to drive around for the next 2.5-3 years... and i wont feel as bad when it gets hit instead of if i had a brand new car... that would piss me the hell off

so in conclusion, you all have answered my question sufficiently, and i highly appreciate the input, and i see that the CL Type-S is the one to go for, and im going to have to wait because i dont feel like squeezing out the extra 2G's right now, especially since i know i can find one around 11k with decent 60k mileage on it... thank you very much

I say get the Type-S and then start saving for a new tranny.

For the money, the S is worth every penny. I'd suggest you search a lil more and find a 6-speed (although less then 20% of the population in the US knows how to drive a manual).

wow, ok so i've been hearing a lot about these transmissions going bad.. whats the deal with that? also, all the ones im looking at have the new transmissions in them, i already checked..still any cause for concern? i need this car to last me a solid three years of 200 mile highway driving once a month, and just local city driving..i havent been easy on my 2000 accord during the past three years, i drove it like an idiot, but i know once i get this CL im going to drive it fair and slow because its the last car my mom will buy me before i get my own job after college...

The new transmissions don't seem to make a difference. Checkout the transmission recall Q & A section. I wouldn't have gotten the CL if it wasn't a manual (after reading about the transmission issues). I love my 6-speed. Much more control over the car (sure it can suck a bit in stop and go traffic). Much more fun then any auto (even the BMW SMG). This is the first daily driver I've had with a manual and I don't see myself going back to autos. Only downside is that it can be hard to find someone else to drive your car when your drunk. Some college campus' have a service where they'll come and someone will drive your car home. Check into that.

[QUOTE=thevikas87]anyone know how badly the insurance for full coverage will be affected by getting a Type S over a CLP??[/QUOTE The insurance is high, Acura is one of the top vehicles stolen in the U.S., so the insurance co says! But when you get a CLS definately do not speed because the cops seem to love Acuras more than the owners themselves. I have had to learn the hard way, because I even remember talking to the head manager at Carmax where I bought the CLS, and he told me" be careful dont go fast" and said oooooooooo I wont!!What do you know before I could even run a whole tank of gas out I already had a ticket!! I think 84 in 55. LOL I had to learn the hard way. Im on the 3rd now and the insuance sux!

The insurance sux, espically if you get a ticket or two. I got my first one before I could even run a full tank of gas out! (84/55) LOL now on third!!! Watch out, the cops seem to love Acuras more than the owners themselves.

I don't think the insurance is bad. On par with most other cars in this year range. At least they put it under a luxary car and not a sports car. Then again under 21 your gonna have a higher rate (or even under 25).

south carolina, plus i think its going to be insured under my mom's name, and shes 53.... with no violations, perfect driving record, right now she drives a 2002 accord EX, you think the insurance would be cheaper for a 2001 CLS ?

Im not 100% sure about that, either way the insurance co is gonna see how old you are. But def the insurance is gonna be higher on the CL. What insurance looks at is; the type of car, color, size of engine, and of course your drivin record to determin you rate. Hope that helped a little.Call around to some insurance co and get some rates first hand and you will know for sure.

It's a myth that the color matters in your insurance rating. It has nothing to do with it.

your best bet is to shop around.

state farm gave me the best deal out 5 big insurance companies i got quotes from. i've been with them for 4 years now and they lower my payments every year.

Hey guys no1 has an idea just on average how much more the CL-S will be than the Accord? Because I shopped around for an AV6 and I can get around $220 monthly (after all of the up front stuff) will the CL-S be WAY more or just a little more? I also shopped around for a Mustang GT (I was in dream land) and I was around $570 a month (AINT THAT A CAR PAYMENT?), so I'm hoping the CL-S isn't flirting with the GT's in thier insurance rates...

Bottom line, no matter how you argue it, the Type-S version is a lot more car for the money.

Meh i'm 17 tho and I do like 350-400 miles a week which prolly raised my rates... but yah a '00 AV6 EX coupe was 220 a month (VERY LOW compared to my friends cars) after like an 600 down payment on the body or sumfin, then I got bored so I decided to mess with the poor insurance agent some more and asked about a '00 GT and we got like an 800 down payment and $570 a month payments thennnn we got even meaner and asked him about a '00 Yukon.... 1k down payment and $500 a month payments.....
now this is was all before we decided to put me on the same insurance with the whole family because my family didn't want me raising thier rates but we decided what the hey i'm going on thier plan... to insure mom + g-ma + g-pa (at the time perfect drivers) on 2 cars was 100 a month, and when they added me it doubled , in the long run we're saving money (to insure me separately on the blade woulda been like $200 a month) but still they hate me for doubling the insurance, ahhh to be a teenager....

btw... Type-S ftmfw

I paid more for insurance when I had my TL than my CLS6.. The difference was like $50 per 6 months or something like that. Nothing really if you think about it.

Anyway when I asked the guy why my insurance will be lower, he said its because its a smaller car and will cause less damage if I were to hit something.. Oh and thats progressive..

If your mom is buying you the car, why don't you just put the insurance and car in her name.

And how in the hell are you looking at $300/month for car insurance on the CL-S. You must have some traffic violations.

Either way, it must be nice to have a car bought for you and you only have to pay for insurance.

In high school, I had an 1987 Dodge Shadow with a 2.2 Turbo and maroon interior, it was the only car I could afford making $5.00/hr at an amusement park. But till this day, I still remember that car and how much I loved it.

Compression ratios:
CLp=9.8:1 CL S=10.5:1
Steering lock to lock:
CLp=3.06 CL S=2.88

My opinion, hunt for a 6MT, then you get all the type S benefits + Limited Slip Differential and lose the TCS.

Hey, Thevikas87, TRY both the cars and see what YOU like. My daughter has an '03 CL-P and believe me, with her driving it's plenty fast. I think she just trained it right , lol. We test drove both, new in '03, and I really thought she'd go for the type s. But she didn't like the jarring of the stiffer suspension. If you like the type s, though, it's well worth the 2gs more.

haha i recently started doing 100 miles trips like every other weekend and i realized how much comfortable seats meant to me when my ass hurt after sitting in my 2000 accord's hard cloth seats which feel like im sitting on rocks sometimes

Some ppl have told me that with a few bolt ons like headers, intake, and exhaust i could get at least 25 more hp...? true or not?
your insurance may be more for a type S due to the insurance considering it a "high performance" coupe. Back in the day, it was a pretty potent car.......and it still is today.

Also bolt-ons usually give better performance on the Type S versus the base model. Headers give 25HP on the base versus 30HP on the type S

type-s ftw. better yet 6speed type-s ftw to avoid the tranny issues. similar (not same) scenerios are like is250 vs is350: bmw328 vs bmw335. i just don't see understand why anyone would not buy a MUCH faster/better car for a couple g's more. even if you don't have the $$$ ...save up for it. it will be worth it
