CL or CL Type-S

CL or CL Type-S
So i wanna buy a cl, but i cant decide between a CL or a cl type-s, I mean, is there really that big of a difference? Would it be possible to make a normal CL up to par with a CL type S ? Because the normal cl is going to save me like $2000, but if i just wanted to get everyone's opinion. Some ppl have told me that with a few bolt ons like headers, intake, and exhaust i could get at least 25 more hp...? true or not?

CL vs. CL-S
Well...the main difference between the 2 is the horsepower...225 for the CL ..vs 260 for the CL-S...depends on your situation...family man...single...budget..etc...in my opinion..the CL-S is worth every dime of that $2000 difference that you mentioned..id say...research them both THOUROUGHLY online..do searches...and read all the reviews you can...hell..read everything you can find....thouroughly test drive BOTH the cars...get a feel for both....look at it like this...if you're going to keep the car for ..4...5 years...then..that $2000 wont make a hill of beans down the road...but ..its totally up up you...Good luck....let us know what you decided on...

as far the bolt-ons...ur always going to have a 35 hp difference...225 vs 260..bolt-on for bolt-on...its all relevant...horsepower (speed) is expensive...no matter how you cut it...

yea, but putting them on a cls makes it even better. id try to talk him down on the cls. i bought mine a year ago with 58k on it for 11,100. its auto and non navi and taffetta white. so you should be able to talk him down alittle for the cls
either way welcome to the azine community and good luck with which ever one you choose to purchase

no they're just boooorrrinnnnggg especially since you're 19, the Type-S is much more fun to drive around, if you were like a bit older i'd go for the CL-P but us teenagers need sumfin w/ a lil zip in em

hmm yea im 19, im mostly looking for highway top end performance, you know from like 70 to 100, and im also looking for some power in city driving, like leaving the local redneck in his damn truck in the dust or the local riced up civic back at the traffic light, but nothing too outrageous....but from the looks of it, it seems that i need to get a CL type S

Also think about it math wise:
Choice 1:
CL-P = 11,000
Comptech Headers =$800 + install
CAI - $150
Exhaust - ABOUT $500ish + install
Total = $12,450 + install for stock CL-S power
OR
CL-S = $13,000
Then save up and when you get the chance, do the CAI, Headers, Exhaust and be as fast as a G35 Coupe. Just doesn't make sense to me to get the CL-P

On the other hand, if you're going to be replacing the suspension (and you probably will because both models sit ridiculously high), it doesn't matter if you get the premium or S..
The only thing the type-s has that the premium doesnt are 17" wheels, perforated leather seats, white gauges, slightly firmer suspension, and the 35hp. If those aren't worth the $2k to you, then your decision should be pretty clear..
No matter how you cut it, the average Joe's type-S will not set any remarkable records in speed in straight line or cornering. Sure, the premium is half a second slower in the quarter (vs auto S), but is that something that is really necessary on your way to school or work? If you're buying this car for speed alone, you are mislead, and should look at other cars...

But what if he's like me and he's pretty much stuck on Honda's Mid-Size Coupes...

Ok very helpful post, let me start off by thanking you, i guess i should clarify a little more,
i know i can pick up the CL-S rims for 200 bucks (excellent condition all 4) and put them on the CLP
the seats...dont particularly matter...
i can change out the gauges with some of my liking..
the suspension...not a biggie...
the 35hp on the other hand...ill just work on over the next 3 years that ill be drivin g the car if it really bothers me that much...ill start off with intake and headers
but it was mentioned earlier that i should try out both, and get a feel for them, which is also a good suggestion, and i agree so ill do that....

Trust me, the car alone stock (type s) has gotten me 3 tickets, so dont think that these are not fast now, so dont go driving around with a led foot, because they will get you! I have had to learn the hard way, now I am forced to drive like a ole person on a Sunday afternoon drive.

Please re-read my post! Monetarily, it does not make sense to get the CL-P for $2,000 left if you plan on spending all that much just to get mods to make it as fast as the CL-S is STOCK! If you spend $13,000, then after a few months of working, you can do the headers/CAI and it'll put you in a different class of speed than a CL-P ever could be in.

trust me you will regret it if you dont get the type S, remember it will always be worth more than the cl-p, also, im sure you can talk it down at least 500,just mension a glass transmission etc.... when your making the payments on a 5 year plan, you'll only be paying 25 dollars more each payment, for 25 dollars a month you will be driving a car with the speed your trying to get at w/o the hassle of finding a good deal on the mods, and installing them, and when you sell the car you might have to take those mods out.... just think it through and goodluck, welcome to the acura family!

The CL-Ps offer better color choices. I say get the CL-P and throw a turbonator on it off of eBay for $190... there's your 35 hp. Kidding of course, get a Type S... you'll end up saving money in the end instead of trying to get the CL-P to catch up with a Type S.

Don't forget you are stepping up to 17's, so unless you have 4, 215/50/17 tires sitting around your house, expect to spend atleast $300 and that is for crappy tires and a ghetto balance.
Things aren't as easy as they sound when making one kind of car into another. Don't forget about resale value...
Most mods only get about 25% of their worth back.
Therefore, all the mods to bring the CL-P up to the type S will be worth 75% less even if you make the cars comparable in terms of performance. That means you are going to get less money for a modded CL-P than you would for a stock type S (probably not a big deal, but just some thinking)
Go with the S, its only about another $40 more per month.

I just happened to find a type S when I was looking at cars and got it, looking back, if I had gotten a CL-P I would always feel second class, I would not be as happy knowing that there are so many Type S' out there, you may not care about the seats, but they are awesome, the perforated leather is sweet!!! Not to mention the shiftknob!!! HAHA
But seriously, reading all these posts you know that you should get the type S, especially if you have mods in mind, you would just be taking a step back on your modding progress if you got the CL-P

Mine is on the chopping block, I keep passing this along. I got $4k in mods on my 01 CL-S and am selling it for $10,500. I have 125k miles on it, but honestly, 60,00 of those are highway miles and my car runs like a champ.
Sorry for the lame plug..... ha

well i agree with the fact how you think its not possible, but it just so happens that my friend owns a body shop, and a wrecked CL-S just came in with new tires on the rims...the car is done...but they're going to part it out...and he's like a brother so he'll give me the rims with the tires dirt cheap.. but as for the rest of your post i agree completely and now im pretty much set on getting a type-S, its definitely worth the money...does anyonne know if getting the type S affects insurance much over the CLP??

well the thing is... i know the CLS's are known to be found in the 11k ish range to 12kish with around 60k miles on them... and i really want to find that, instead of plopping 13 k on a 6 year old car... ya know? so i suppose ill wait...cause this guy doesnt want to budge from 13k for this CLS
