CL 6 speed pricing and shifting Q

What do you think a CL-S 6 speed with navi will go for? I know manuals usually cost less than autos but do you think this will hold true in this case? For those of you who recently bought your car, how much did you pay for a CL-S with navi excluding TT&L? I bought mine the first month it was out so I know I paid way more that a lot of you. Also, for those of you who've driven Honda/Acura 6 speeds, is it tricky at all? I've only driven 5 speeds which are super easy since there's only 3 left/right positions to worry about. Hard left for 1&2, neutral for 3&4, and hard right past the resistance for 5th. I played with a GM 6 speed at a car show once and couldn't find all of the gears. I just hope they space the gears right this time and don't give it 3 overdrive gears like they gave our car 2 overdrives. I'd like to see 6th a *tiny* bit taller than our 5th, and make 4th and 5th about 1/2 gear lower than our's.

This is in no way intended to be anything but my opinion.

Lincoln charges extra for the manual transmission in their LS. I believe that Acura will do the same. It will be an option. I believe they'll charge around $1500 for it like Lincoln does.

The logic is that it gives the small percentage of buyers the transmission they want, but still allows Acura to pay off the costs of building the cars with different transmissions.

I think this could go either way. They may raise the price of the automatics and keep the 6spd at the current price. This is very wise from a business standpoint as it allows them to market that they haven't increased prices, yet clearly they'll benefit from it. Keep in mind, this car is priced low enough that they can afford to do the above. They may also keep them the same price. I highly doubt they'll make the 6spd cheaper though. Just doesn't sound like a "Honda" thing to do....

My hope is that they build the 6 speed with the swift shifting and quality of a typical honda!

I too dont know how to shift.

I mean... I drove a Honda Passport 5-spd for quite awhile... and then my girls MX3 5-spd for some time...

But I dont think I ever learned whats COOL about stick.

Too me it was nothing but a workout.

Someone needs to show me the tricks and the right way to do it.

I was never taught... I just got in and grinded gears till i figured it out.

Where's the clutch gonna be?

Does that mean we have a handbrake now?

The trick and benefit is the elimination of the lockup torque converter. That's a huge drain on available torque, if I'm remembering right. Being able to engage the gear quickly with no torque fade in enables much faster launches.

My guess it's that they'll price the 6-speed as an option and price it at around $1000. Seems to make sense.

Soopa, I learned the same way in a friends VW Golf. His dad works for VW, so he just brought home a fleet car for us to drive around that weekend. After he and I learned on it, we just gave it back. It was new when we started, but 4 of us ground that clutch to death that weekend. :-)

Of course, now his dad got him a sweet deal on a 6speed S4. It's a bit more fun than the Golf.

Stick are usually cheaper than automatic, thus the only two they can do it. First, raise the price of the automatic or make the 6-speed about 1K less.

You'll probably have to pay more for the manual. Just like with a corvette.
