Chk Eng trbl code 8

I dont know if im posting this question in the right place , Im usually reading not posting . However yesterday my '01 CL type S started to act like it was out of gas. (Yes it has gas in it)
Diving right in I jumped out pins 4 and 9 and read cel code/s.
This is where i am lost. The cel light blinks fast 8 times and then pauses. and repeats 8 fast flashes. nothing else . I have other codes from ABS and SRS but doubt they apply to no start condition. What I assumed was that I would read a main code then sub code. Either way ... can someone tell me what code 8 or 08 is? I think on some older acuras it was TDC fault. if it is the same here should i consider the timing/ timing belt as culprit? Im dead in the water . Please help .

do you have a OBD scanner? Many places will read the codes for free.

So would the car start? Or did it die when you were driving?? Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you put the key in last position before you start it? I doubt it's the timing belt. When was it last replaced?

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance on this.

for discussion sake,
I have owned this car for one year and maybe 12 k miles . Currently has 165k.

Yesterday..
I drove the car one mile , parked it and turned off the engine then turned back on for air conditioning. After only a few minutes it died like it ran out of fuel. i restarted it and had to play with the gas pedal to keep it running. Turned on hazards and drove it home one mile. didnt get worse ,didnt get better. after a few hrs to cool down i tried restarting .

Yep i listened for fuel pump and it is faint but it hums for a couple seconds and then quiets. However the car would only run for a few seconds then stop . almost like it was bogging or out of fuel. I then read codes by jumping out pins and reading dash.

Can you tell me is 8 a good code ?
I dont know if timing belt has been done on this car and assumed that it had not. just waiting on a water pump and a weekend to install new kit.

I will add that the chk eng light was not lit prior to this and the car ran perfectly.

usually people post the engine code that popped up. I've never seen anyone use the code you're referring to so i'm kind of lost. If we had the actual codes we could really narrow it down. Can you borrow one from someone? They're not too expensive to buy either.

.I did just now get my hands on one and the only code was P1361.
....or , Ignition Coil KPrimary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction.

Would that indicate a coil pack?

that code is "P1361 Ignition Control (IC) Circuit Low Voltage". There is a TDC sensor and it looks to be behind the timing belt cover and that senses the TDC for the pistons.

From a quick search, many people had that code after washing their engine bay. Maybe you'll have to tackle the T-belt job sooner than later. Or pull the cover and take a look at the sensor for wire damage. I found many threads on the code by googling: "acurazine" P1361. You can also go on oemacuraparts.com to see a diagram of where the sensor is.

Already on it and thank you for taking the time .
I will post follow up when resolved.

Now what did I learn today??
Buy my own code reader so I dont look like such a tool!

Ok day three,
After researching in several directions the code P1361,
I found the same thing you did ... discussions about connections etc. getting wet after spray wash and or bad connections /damaged wiring. I did not find one case where the TDC sensor had gone bad and infact many resolved problems by re running 4 conductor to sensor.
So with that in mind I started in around the area of Wiring and 4 pin connector . i noticed a slight leakage around steering pump that could possibly get into and around sensors as they are located right down and behind pump. Before pulling everything apart however I checked the resistance between 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 also went looking for any voltage at harness with key ign on. here is what i found and need someone with the knowledge to tell me if readings indicate fault or bad sensor/s...

At sensors... resistance measures 750 ohms between 1&2 and 750 ohms between 3&4 .and no shorts to ground.

At the harness side with key oni detected only a slight ambient voltage of .03-.04 volts on 1 & 2...1 & grnd
same with 3 & 4 .. & 3 to grnd

also on harness side i had
shorts to ground on2 & 4 and ,
10 k ohms between 1 & 2 and 10k between 3 & 4 please if someone could tell me what if anything this determines and any advice is appreciated

Acting like it's running out of gas could be a flaky 'main relay.'

It was the timing belt after all. when I stopped and started the car in the parking lot the belt slipped one space as it was frayed and even partially disintegrated. This caused the code and rough idle. It appears that this is original belt nearing 160k miles. Not the second one previous owner had claimed.
How lucky was I that the belt in its condition didnt break all together .
so now im up to my elbows in repair, any one have advice on how to get all timing marks lined back up ? i have everything torn down and belt removed but with the front cam on TDC and the crank on TDC the rear cam is off and seems resistant to being moved . spring like tension. what am i missing here?
