Check engine light is on.... dont know whats wrong.

on my way back from school today all the sudden my car stated to rev really weird, the check engine light and vsa light both came on. the car wasnt shifting hard so i dont think its the transmission. so i went to the dealer to get it checked out, the service advisor that i always go to tells me that they are too busy and cant take any more cars in , i told him i dont think my car is safe to drive i think you guys should look at it, or atleast scan it w/ the computer to see whats up, he said they are too busy , i dont have time to take the car in tommorw so i'll take it in on wensday, thats some fucked up service if you ask me

u guys think it could possibly be the trannyt or the tensior recall i got in the mail???

thanks

darrin

If it's reving weird with the VSA and CEL lights on, it sounds like a tranny. I had the same behavior... NO hard shifts either.

I had the same thing... Do you have headers, what brand. It may be as simple as the O2 sensor...

do a search for O2 sensor and look for my name as the thread starter.

Hmmm... After reading Rondog's post, this could be it. Darrin does have OBX headers, and the symptoms are a spot on match.

I would guess not... Depends on how mod friendly and what type of mood the dealer is in.

Why would they?? If it is installed on aftermarket headers which caused the damage; they have no responsibility for this.

There could be a miriade of reasons for the problem. You need to get it scanned to know for sure. Otherwise it is a shot in the dark.

Why does the OBX header cause a malfunction to the O2 sensor? Does it position the sensor close to the block so that the wiring gets damaged?

OR... are you guys spraying some gook on the sensor (like liquid wrench or whatever) and damaging it?

Unplug your battary for a little while and see what happens. My check engine lite came right back on after the first drive, I just order a new O2 sensor. My car seems to be okay until you stop then it starts to rev very funny. I should have saved my money for a Comptech header.

Don't think it's the O2. typically anytime both lights come on, it is the tranny. Hard shift or not. Especially if the fluid smells burnt. Yes the cel can come on if the sensor is fubar, but the vsa light doesn't. Remember, the vsa stands for vehicle stability assist. O2 sensors do not affect that light. I'd like to know what the dealer says when you can get it checked.

It doesn't sound like a tranny problem.

Its the IAC...idle air control valve...I'm like 99% positive on that. It's stafe to drive but at idle it will surge badly and may even stall. It will do the same thing if the car is low on coolant...hope this helps

My O2 sensor went out a while ago because of my Comptech headers and the dealer that I had them installed at replaced the sensor under warranty.

Umm.. no! I have my IAC disconnected (although plugged in) and it only throws a code every now and then.... its nothing to do with the tranny - although someone confirm this for the A/T.

I have a 2003 cl-s6... 15000km... and the check engine is always on. It stops sometimes and then... I'm okay not even for a day and it lights up again.

I'll go to the dealer soon to have it checked out... but it's been doing that since I have like 6000ks on it and the car drives fine.

Make sure you turn the gas cap really tight. My friend's light was going on and off for that reason.

I never said it has anything to do w/ the tranny. Not to mention...just about every single time I get a car w/ an erratic idle or "weird reving" w/ a check engine light on AND the vsa on...it a P0505...Idle Air Control System Failure...I replace the IAC valve...and it's fine. I did one today on a mdx. Just cause your IAC is disconnected...doesn't mean you know the symptoms of a faulty one....not trying to sound harsh here but thats my opinion!

Nobody asked if the car is running different... If the O2 sensor is bad, should it run sluggish?? Should'nt the mileage be through the roof? I had an O2 go on my old civic and it definitely made a difference.

With all the different opinions, I will definitely be interested in hearing the diag. It could be none of the above or all of the above. All of this is speculation. Ant, Jens, and myself all work for dealership service depts, so all of us are going to guess at this point. And the last time I had an IAC go bad on an MDX, the cel and vtm-4 lights were on. Didn't think they had vsa.

Speculation is irrelevant as you won't replace parts on a whim. Get the code read and then the path is determined.

rondog doesnt have problems when driving the car though, he has some rough idling issues. With the car revving weird were you stopped, if you were stopped it could be the 02 sensor. But if you are driving and it is revving funny then it is the tranny no doubt. Its funny because i have the obx and my 02 sensor is in a totally different spot than rondog's which is weird.

Hasn't this happened to you before Darrin? You posted that your car was acting weird, dash is lit up like a Christmas tree and then it seemed to cure itself?

Or should I lay off the and stop making things up???

just get bthe code checked at autozone or something. the vsa, ! and check engine all go on and the dealer said it was from the o2 sensor. I took a lok and the o2 was almost touching the oil pan. all 3 lights come on and off and I hjave rough idle at a stop. otherwise ther are no other symptoms that I know of. if you are worried about future probs with the dealer, than check it somewere trustworthy. if not just let them tell you iot's the o2sensor. youi really have nothing to lose...
