Check engine light??

Hey guys, today i was pulling into the gas station and i got a Check engine light, well the symptoms are when the car is in neutral (Car is 6MT) the rpms rise on there own without me hitting th gass, also when u let off the gas in any gear it shakes violently, my guess is its misifring and its the Igntion coils, tommrow im going to go to the local auto parts and get it scanned, what are your thoughts on this?- Thanks in advance

it could be the misfiring.....I never had that symptom before and I'm at 47k miles 6spd. Could be a defective IAC Valve. One of a fellow member had rough idle (similar to yours) and a check engine light.

It's underneath the throttle body. You can use some throttle body cleaner to clean it out.

i cleaned mine with carb cleaner and it fixed a similar problem. also look under the upper intake manifold aluminum cover plate for deposits. remove the chrome bolts at the top of the UIM and look under it.

Anyone have pictures or a DIY on how to take apart/clean the TB and IACV? I enjoy doing things myself but am not a grease monkey and need the step-by-step.

Dremel + cut off wheel = rounded head turned into flat head screw. Easy peasy.
