Changing headers without removal of SC?

I recently found out that my obx headers are cracked on both manifolds, and i wanted to change out the headers asap. A mechanic that works on acura cars alot offered to change them for the price of a regular header job!!! It sounded like a really good deal, until he decided to hide and run.
I asked him how he would do it without removing the blower, and he came back and said that it wouldnt be hard, and mentioned lowering? the subframe to gain access to the front manifold.
I was wondering if anyone has done something like this before. Are there any tricks to removing headers without taking the blower out? I need to get the new headers in soon because i want to get the wideband running. Any ideas from experienced installers? I actually did the headers myself and dont see any way of doing them again without removing the blower.

ive been contemplating an idea for now, maybe removing the radiator will give enough room to reach the front manifold? im gonna take a look into it cuz i really dont want to go through the trouble of pulling the blower out. has no one heard of the method i described above? anyone out there with an SC EVER change headers without taking the blower out?

never had to, comptech don't break. nexus---3/417
comptech--- 0/4721

all kidding aside, since your SC is already on, if you take your time, removing it is very simple and you can have it off the car in 30min. don't let it intimidate you, a dozen, give or take a few, nuts bolts screws clamps and wham-mo it off, i think taking your rad out is more work intensive, and messy. just replace the .10 "o" ring on the cam cover.

^^ Are you saying don't remove the S/C off the bracket, but remove the entire assy including the EGR valve & mount bracket? I would assume the 'o' ring would get destroyed
at that point.

ThinJim is correct. That's how Comptech does it. They don't pull SC off the bracket but remove as a full assembly. When I was at Comptech, they pulled off my blower to isolate a resonance on my system. I didn't believe it until I saw them do it. Comptech just hasn't modified their instructions to reflect this procedure. Under their method, you don't have to mess with that stupid hard to reach allen bolt.

Sounds great...but
I dunno... messing with that EGR plate can easily cause the top half of the motor to lock up... although this was on the initial install... i personally would mess with the allen bolts... with the right tools it is not a problem removing the S/C.

I agree that the allen bolts aren't too hard with a ball end allen. Upside of pulling the bracket off with the blower eliminates the possibility of breaking the seal on the unit and causing a leak in the blower. As long as you're careful, both methods are doable. Guess it's whatever you're most comfortable with.

What size are the allen bolts? What kind of a ball-end allen wrench (i.e. size is best for this?)

I personally would shy away from removing the allen screws, the possibility is too great to break the seal. the egr is simple, pull the harness, take out the two bolts that hold it on, carefully tilt and lift, and you can reuse the gasket, i did, no leaks, no problems. once the egr is off, take the two bolts off the cam cover assembly and slide the blower toward the drivers side fender. as for the brace, take it off,

if you were going to tackle the rad removel method, you can certainly remove the SC. you can do it in 30 min.

They're 5mm hex bolts that hold the jack shaft to the blower. With a ball end hex wrench, you don't need to be dead straight over the bolt. I was able to reach around to the two back bolts with these:
