ceramic pads no good?

Why don't you recommend Ceramic Brake Pads?

Let's start by saying that ceramic brake pads have a place in the automotive industry. They were designed to be a low-dust, noise-free brake pad. They came into popularity after the discontinued use of asbestos-based brake pads. At that time, semi-metallic pads exhibited problems with higher noise and dust levels.

Ceramic Brake Pads were NEVER designed to be a performance brake pad! Some companies have done a terrific job marketing their higher-priced, ceramic pads to the consumer as a performance pad. Ceramic brake pads typically have lower friction coefficients, and act as an insulator - raising rotor temperatures in cast-iron disc systems. When you have a vehicle that has persistent braking problems- the last thing you want to do is install components that have a LOWER friction coefficient and that RAISE effective operating temperatures! Premium-grade semi-metallic or hybrid pads are more effective for handling elevated temperatures and dissipating heat away from rotors. Most, if not all, semi-metallic pads have a degree of ceramic content ALREADY IN the brake pad.

Premium-grade, semi-metallic pads can offer LOW-DUST, NOISE-FREE Performance without sacrificing stopping power and increasing rotor temperatures!

Read this on some brake website. Any truth to this? Sounds like it makes sense, but then again, there's ceramic rotors. I also know a bunch of people on the forum love their ceramic pads, so prove me wrong before I decide to buy my own.

It would be nice if when Honda/Acura issue a TSB about brake issues and specify a change in pad material they provide more input as to why the change helps address the issue.

Are they switching from one type of compound to another? Likely...just what is it?

I have Axxis ULT ceramic pads and they stop a lot better than stock pads, but then again they squeal and have massive amounts of dust.

Mine squeel and are dusty but well worth it for the stopping power. 120mph-60mph no problem

What Fuzzy said. I replaced pads all around with Satisfied Pro and put Brembo rotors on the front about 5K ago (that was at 106K from new) and they are great.

Good Stuff.. My front rotors are slightly warped and I've been thinking about what pads rotors to get...

Brembo or Rotora rotors and Satified Pro or Akebono pads... I'm cheap, so the Brembo and Satified Pro sound interesting...

Akebono are cheaper to buy at rockauto.com, very good site.
my setup is brembo blanks & akebono, it has worked great for over 2 years.
the rotors are starting to warp just like OEM, but its not that bad. So overall I think you get better value for less money. Brembo blanks will fit perfectly, its an exact OEM replacement, same is true for Akebono.
the only thing with akebono, they give you a bit soft pedal feel, but I like it. they stop the same or better than stock.

Any difference btw. Rotora/Akebono/Brembo?

Brembo doesn't make brake pads. ROTORA slotted rotors work well with many a different ceramic pad though: ROTORA, Hawk, Akebono, etc.

Just to chime in....I got PFC (performance friction) pads all around. And they're fanatastic! Unbelievable stopping power and no noise at all. But the sucky part is that theres more dust - even more than OE. I wash the damn car every 2-3 days anyways so I don't mind.

I debated going with Rotora slotted. The Brembos I used are just the regular blanks. Only do street driving, no track stuff, so decided to go the cheaper route - Brembos were a little more than 1/2 the price of Rotura.

It's worked well since I got them. No complaints. Got them from Tire Rack.

I have R1 Concepts slotted/drilled rotors and I couldn't be happier. They're cheap and work great. Just gotta get used to the locus-like sound that they make.

I believe so, as these PFC pads I heard are very adaptable to many rotors. Maybe someone on here will like to chime in? I actually have RacingBrake rotors with these PFC carbon Metallic pads installed on my 02' TL-S. Had them for about 6,000 miles now and absolutely no problems, unbeatable stopping power, and no noise/squeel.

Oh and forgot to mention - they come with a lifetime warranty. (bought from autozone) So anytime that they do make a squeel or anything at all, they said I can swap them for new ones - no questions.
