My engine Light has been cycling like this for the past month or so. It would come on for a few days and go just off without having to reset it. Does this make any sense? I went to Autozone and they pulled the code for cyl#4 misfire so I know I have some tests to run.

I guess a plug or coil is on the way out,..... when its running bad it throws a CEL, when its good the light turns off????. I thought resetting the ECU was the only way to get the CEL to go out.

 

does autozone test ur car for free? I have engine light on my other car as well. It goes on and off for few months already. I just want to know where did the error come from and try to find a solution.

 

Yeah, any autozone-type place should check your CEL for free.

 

Start by swapping the #4 cylinder coil pack with one from another cylinder and see if the CEL code follows the coil pack. You should be able to narrow down the problem this way.

 

How do I count the cylinders, which one is #4? Still dont have a Helms Manual.

 

After the CEL goes off, the codes are still stored on the computer, get it scanned first before playing with the car.
