Car Covers
Anyone know anything about car covers. Maybe you could hook me up with a web site or something. I moved to my pops house and now i have to keep my car outside (My baby!!!!). I want to get one of those breathable ones.

Coming to a city near you
I just got a Wal-Mart special. It works like a champ, but all covers are annoying to put on. Mine has an elastic band at the bottom and if I don't hook it down good, it shoots across the car like a rubber band when I'm walking to the other end to secure that side. If you have vandals/theives in your hood they make some car covers that lock around the bottom. Or you could just roll a tire over one end of the cover.
The OEM is nice but it is expensive too. I think mine was around $50

I've been wondering about the same question for a while too. So this is what I found.
Basically, you have two choices -- fitted or non-fitted. The fitted ones wrap around your car like a second skin, kind of. They are made to match your car's dimension exactly, including side mirrors, spoiler etc. The non-fitted ones are kinda general in size. For example, one might fit a car which is 16' to 17'8" in size. For the record, the 01 CL-S is 16' even. Fitted covers provide slightly better protection since they don't flap around in the wind. Obviously they cost more.
Then you have a choice of materials. At the bottom of the rung, you have poly/cotton, PVC-like materials, and flannel. Performance wise, poly-cotton and flannel are OK for indoor storage (ie dust resistant), but that's not what we need. We need outdoor protection from rain, sun, UV etc. So we move on to something a little better...
Next, you have the most popular ones on the market: Evolution, Technalon (aka evolution IV), Noah. All of them offer pretty good protection (Acura's OEM cover uses technalon) and are in the 175-250 range depending on retailer/manufacturer. Personally, I think these offer the best bang for buck. They offer good protection and usually come with a 2-5 yr warranty.
Then at the top end of the scale, you have Sunbrella, which ppl usually use to cover their boats. Sunbrella is incredibly weather resistant, comes with a TEN year warranty, but costs an arm+leg.

hey D73, i'm looking for somthing that will protect the cl from rain, pollen, and hopefully some dings too. can you recommend any? i was gonna buy the oem one but i did a search on the web and they cost about $300-$350. kinda over my budget. but it would be nice to have the side mirrors custom look but it's not necessary. i just want the protection with out ruining the paint from moisture staying in or the pollen and dust imbedding themselves in the paint.

Hey icy, if you want something that will protect somewhat against dings, I'd suggest getting something made out of Noah. It's probably the thickest material out there. It kinda feels like that kinda stuff moving companies use to pad furniture, just thinner. It's good for rain and stuff too.

Oops... after re-reading the article in my post, I realized I suggested Noah. It should read Technalon/Evolution. My memory just isn't up to par!

Anyone interested in buying? Group buy opportunity!
Talking about car covers, is anyone interested in getting one? I can get them for $170 shipped, which is cheaper than what ahmotor.com offers without shipping.
It is a Noah custom fit cover made by Covercraft for the 2001 CL with factory spoiler, and includes the cable, lock, storage bag, and 4 year limited warranty from Covercraft.
The main differences between this car cover and the OEM one:
1. Different materials: OEM is made of Technalon. This is made of Noah. Read the link I posted above for Technalon vs Noah.
2. This is cheaper! OEM is priced at $175 BEFORE SHIPPING (ahmotor.com) and this is priced at $170 SHIPPED.
Let me know if y'all are interested and I'll see if I can get a group buy thing going.

This is what a group-buy discount would bring:
1. Cost of Noah cover is $160. Cost of Technalon cover is $140.
2. Available for both 2001+ and 1997-2000 models. Same price.
3. Noah cover is only available in grey. Technalon cover available in tan, blue or grey.
4. Both Noah and Technalon come with 4 yr warranty
5. Storage bag & cable lock included on all covers
6. 2nd cover is $10 discount. 3rd and subsequent covers are $20 discount each.
Eg: 2 covers, we get a $10 discount. 3 covers, $10 + $20 discount. 4 covers, $10 + $20 + $20 discount etc.
7. Total shipping for ALL covers sent to the same address is $10.

I have a NOAH. I bought it for around $160. It's a great cover. I used it through rain, snow, sleet, hail, you name it. The bad thing about it is it's not 100% water proof. Water will seep through when the rain is heavy or if it rains for long periods.

You're right. Noah isn't waterproof. NOTHING out there is water-proof. If it were water-proof, then water wouldn't get in, but it wouldn't get OUT either, and that's BAD cos trapped moisture will eat into your paint, and you'll get fungal growth on your car. Ewwwww....

hey D73, if you can wait another 3 weeks, i'll purchase one with you. but my '01 cl doesn't have a spoiler.....i wouldn't want to have that extra skin on my behind. if you can't wait, go ahead, i'll just purchase it when i have the cash.

The car cover design is the same whether or not your CL has a factory spoiler. Our spoilers are low profile enough that there's no change. Unlike a Supra or something. Let me know ok? My email is acuracl@slashview.com. Cheers!

hey D73, i'm thinking of getting the "WeatherShield". It's about $90 more than the noah but can be washed via washer and dryer. i don't think the noah can be washed in a washer and dried in a home dryer. I think the "weathershield" is more for me. any comments about it. i plan to order it tomorrow from delaware....not too far from me via ups. comments.....

Icy CL, the price I got from the guy for a fitted weathershield cover is $230 + $10 shipping. What price were you getting it for?
You're right. Weathershield can be machine washed/dried, unlike Noah or Technalon. From what I've read, it's as good as any of the other materials, except that it is THIN, so it won't provide any ding protection.

Car Cover question for my situation
Gotta question about car covers. I work in an extremely dusty area so I'm always getting sh|t on my car, and it's pissing me off. I work Silicon Valley so I'd be using it mostly during the summer when it hardly rains. What car cover recs do you have for my particular situation?
Thanks,
G
