Cannonball Run to PAA

I just got a great idea, kinda dangerous but sounds like fun.

All the philly crew gets together on the morning of the PAA meet and puts down a bet of 10 bucks each. We start off a race to PAA. Whoever wins, gets the pot. Use any roads you want, and everything is at your own risk.

I love the whole concept of the Cannonball. I couldn't believe it when I found out Cannonball Run's were actually held. (I'm not talking about that USA Network shit either.)

From what I could remember, some guy averaged from east to west coast @ 120 MPH. Made in like 32 hours.

That's just insane, I'll have to find the site which quoted that.

Oh snap,

Does Zaino make toothpaste and do 4 out of 5 dentists recomend it? If Zaino toothpaste can do to my teeth what Zaino polish does to my car, I am game.

I have a bad feeling 4- 5 dentists will say your F'ing crazy!!!
not to mention the reaction from State Police when they smell Zaino on your breath after pulling your azz over for going to
slow on the TP.

This was for the trip up to DEFCON but i think the same rules would apply, no?

http://www.moloch.org/cannonball/

With respect to the DEFCON Caravan and Deathrace2k, some of us want to break the rules and get to Las Vegas fast. Why? Quick to Vegas, Quick to Drink. Therefore, we have developed the DEFCON Cannonball Run. It is a race against time. Since we will not encourage speeding or reckless driving, you are on your own when it comes to how you will beat the clock. Check out the rules below.

All racers will start at the same starting location.
The race will be held on Thursday August 1st 2002.
We will depart from the Portofino Hotel in Kings Harbor, Redondo Beach, CA.
Racers will be 5 minutes apart.
Racers will punch into time-clock upon departure.
Each racer and passenger will pay $5 entry into the Cannonball Run.
Everyone will sign a waiver, protecting our ass for promoting this behavior.
Racers will punch-in at the Alexis Park with a designated DCR person.
Money collected from each racer will be applied to the bar for the winners.
No tag-backs, electricity or time-outs.
Suggestions

Have your AAA or insurance info.
Bring things like cell phones, tools and first aid stuff.
Get food or beverages for trip.
Get a scanner. Cop warnings.
Don't forget the video cameras and digital cameras. This will make a great film.
Bring CB Radio for long distance yelling, 5 min apart is far. Cop warnings.
F.A.Q.

Why are you doing this?
Uh, it's fun?
What is a Cannonball Run?
We will have a movie night again at tommEE's pickle pad to show Cannonball Run and Cannonball Run II, the day before the race.
When will the celebration begin?
Once all the racers arrive. We will probably leave around all by 2pm, so maybe a 6pm-ish winner celebration
Where do we start?
I have to get the time-clock first.
Is the Caravan still happening?
Yes, if you do not want to be part of the race.
How many to a Team?
As few or many as you want, but you will pay $5 for each person.

The first thing we need to decide on is a location to start this
gig.

Location "A"
&
Location "B" alt., if you know what I mean.

I say we have another infamous Philly meet and go over stuff.
. . .thoughts?

I say up the stakes to $50 a person so it gets interesting. You'll be driving like you stole that car when you know your gonna be $50 out.

This can very well go off without a hitch. I like the CB Radio idea, But, since not everyone owns one, maybe the celular phone idea is best. Also you should have someone start 30 minuets before that is not racing to scout out cops and call everyone VIA cellphone when their ARE cops. Basically have a list of everyone's numbers, photocopy it, and lable each racer in the order they started so the pace leader can and will know who to call first.

Wish I could attend this, sounds like its gonna be alot of fun.

Hmmmm........

How about an un-biased person do the philly drive 1/2 an hour ahead for cop sweeps. I live 45 mins from philly.......

I may find myself somehow involved in this lawlessness

I'll follow and pick your asses up when your cars get impounded for doing 130 in a 65...

I'd do it, but I like my clean driving record. Y'all know I'd kick your asses anyway.

this looks like fun!!! i haven't heard from anyone on Long Island who's really goin, so we're prob not doin one

i'd suggest a few things as options...

1. get some sets of Motorola walkie-talkie's...they have about a 2 mile range and cost like $45-$50 a pair...or u can spend about $50 for a single and have about a 7 mile range...my guess is everyone is is gonna b all over the place, so im not sure how well this idea will work, but the cool thing is that as long as u're all using the same channel, everyone can talk with each other

2. u should number yer cars so that when u guys arrive at PAA, u can punch out and write yer name in...that shoe polish stuff on the windows works fine, otherwise, use masking tape (don't forget to tell Wayne/Pete/Tom/Vinny/Jens yer number before the day so they'll know who u r!!)

3. there's still time to pick up a V1/Passport 8500

4. i like the scout idea, altho the scout's gonna b vulnerable if he's gonna keep in front of u the whole time, meaning the scout himself has to book it up there...if the scout's gonna stay up in front the whole time, figure he's gonna have to b at least a half hour or more in front...which means there's a chance the scout will miss a cop or 2 due to the time difference...just throwin this out as a hypothetical situation.

5. do i have to mention this ISN'T the movie?? bahahaha

6. if something does happen (scout gets nailed, etc.), try and find a meeting spot and hang out til everything's coo

that's all i can think of at this point

Like I said in the past

Bad ideas catch on quickly . This is one of them, but sure as hell could be lots of fun.

Ok, there is still time to pick up a V1 and hardwire it. We need to have at least 10 cars to keep it interesting.
We should be able to meet up with the jersey crew on the way up.
Come on you older guys, dont be pansies, if you see a cop, slow down , you all have a radar as well.

I agree with eclipse, so the bigger the pot, the better the competition. You can use your Navi, although most of us here in philly dont have one.
