i don't see what the difference would be if you bought it later towards the expiration of the factory one or not.
if you bought it at day 1 or at the last day of hte factory warranty, it still does not kick in until the factory one is expired.

I now drive an accord....
You can purchase the warrenty with no penalties for up to 2 years or 24000 miles. After that each dealer adds their own penalties, so you are best off to just call your dealer.

Why buy it? The only reason I bought it is so that the tranny was covered. Chances are, you will be paying $1,000 for extended. Think of this way. If anything breaks, you have that $1K to fix it with. If nothing breaks, you have saved $1K.
The only one other thing that needs coverage is the Nav, if it breaks.
If tranny breaks before 100K, you are covered....
Wish I could sell you mine.
