V6 Porsche Cayenne, Thumbs up or down?

My pops is seriously considering buying the V6 version of the Porsche Cayenne when it comes out later next year (he's already got a Boxter S). Basically the same body but with a VW 3.2 engine (same one in their T-Reg SUV). 247 hp, 9.1 seconds in the 0-62 mph. I'm telling him to shoot for a Porsche Carrera instead. Is this a worthwhile buy or is Porsche further tarnishing its name?

I though they made the VW suv as a low cost alternative to the Porsche, now the Porsche and VW are competing for the same market.

dude you cant compare a carrera with a cayenne...they are literally at opposite sides of the spectrum.

As for the tarnished name...if you dad is getting it for the name, then I'd probably get the Cayenne S instead. For actual usability, I'd look to another brand, like acura

If it was between a Cayenne S and a Porsche Carrera i'd think it'd be kina easy to decide. Either way tell your pops to pick up something other than the S. There's a lot of nice cars to be had for what the S costs.

Well, pops doesn't EXACTLY want the Porsche Carrera at this point, just considering it for the past couple of years.

He needs an SUV (trying to forward him to the X5 or Cayenne S at least) but he's a value guy. Besides the Boxster, he also has an MB AMG E55, which has plenty of kick (stock options). So it's not like he needs another super-fast ride. I believe a V6 Cayenne is an embarrassment to the Porsche name. He thinks it's sufficient for his needs.

Hey my man they don't even make a cayenne v6. The cayenne is available in two trims either the S which is a 4.5L V8. Or you can go with the 450hp turbo V8. It is the same engine except one of them is Turbo. The S is no slouch either it has great handling and braking to go along with the 340hp.

:thumbsdn: To a useless V6 Porsche SUV. If he's going to buy a Cayenne at least get the V8 non turbo.

'tard...He said he is looking at this for next year and the v6 is indeed going to be offered Spring of '04. Check Autoweek if you have the believability bug...

My dad already had a '03 911T and wanted a new SUV. He brought home both Cayenne models, the MB ML55 and the MB 450 (or 420-30, whatever the hell it is between 55 and 350). Anyway, the Cayenne Turbo is fu(king insane. It was freaky riding in something so big, so heavy and so quick. Took a bit of getting used to. So did the more than $90k they wanted for it...

In the end he got the MB450 for like $50k. Plenty quick for an SUV, good reliability and not breaking the bank (other cars do that)...

Unless you just have the $$$ to pimp the Cayenne Turbo and you could care less about value or spending reasonably, get the X5 or Benz...

Hey big guy they don't make an ML430 anymore it was discontinued after 01 and the ML500 took its place, so how did he bring home an ML430 and a Cayenne when the Cayenne came out 2 yrs after the ML430 was discontinued. Sounds like your're the retard.

My parents test drove a Lexus RX330 last week, and they thought it was slow as hell, considering its 3.3L V6 with at least 4000lbs of curb weight, no wonder it is slow. But for this Touareg is even worse, it is 5000lbs and only a 3.2L V6? Let me tell you, it would be tooooooo slow if those two German heavy SUVs equipped with a 3.2L V6. Therefore, I would say a test drive doesn't hurt, but actually buying it is not a good decision. Unless you need to carry lots of stuff frequently or you actually go off-roading, otherwise I can not see a reason why people buy a slow, fuel wasting, noisy, easy to tip over vehicle instead of many "cars" in the market.

What part of:

He brought home both Cayenne models, the MB ML55 and the MB 450 (or 420-30, whatever the hell it is between 55 and 350).
did you fail to comprehend? I believe a 500 series would fall between the 55 and the 350...

I'd say a BMW X5 is a considerably better vehicle .Porsche has made a mistake with the Cayenne .Porsche is about sports cars not SUV's .Sad to see a great name like Porsche fall victim to fashion .
