Can you guys chirp 3rd?

I know it's not the best for a car, but every once in awhile I want to show somebody what my car can do and a chirp here and there helps in demonstrating. I can only get second, and I can't spin for long or the front will start hopping (thank you spongy stock suspension). When I lower my car will it be easier to snap third? How much would a torque dampner help?

i used to be able to chirp my legend into 2nd and 3rd but ever since all my suspension mods, plus sticky rubber, i can't get the front to loose enough traction. poor me

Yeah I can get it to do it quite often as well. Its easyier when its real cold out, And bald ass tires.

Heres a little clip i took a little while back. I believe it was 30 degrees out. Breaking a little loose in 2nd and 3rd.

I doubt it will be easier with lowering springs, as less weight transfer = more weight on the front tires = less spin.

I can do it even with lowering springs and 235/35 Nitto's, but only when its really cool out. Hell, I can break 4th free with my winter tires with it cold out.

to break that loose in third with your mods id say it would have to be a little wet. i could be wrong tho that just seemed like a lot more than a chirp

Yeah it was damp. It rained earlier that day and the road was still damp but not raining. I think its the sheer fact that when I bought my TL wheels, the tires that came with them were already slicks. And They really are slicks now.

It would be cool if the gauge cluster moved that fast on a dry day though.

Nope. Never have been able to. Too warm here, & my tires actually give me traction.

used to be able too with the SC, chirp in third, but now the clutch is showing signs that it doesn't like it.1-2 I have to deliberatly try not to chirp, 3rd I have to ease into it or the clutch will slip.

I don't think anyone suggested it's a good thing, but that it's only it's a fun thing.

I have brand new tires and it doesn't get very cold around here (78 degrees yesterday and it's December). Maybe that's why I can't get 3rd. What RPM are you guys shifting at when snapping 3rd? I usually go about 5000-5500.

And I guess lower suspension won't make it easier to chirp, but I know it'll make it less likely to hop like it does sometimes.

I didnt really notice any less wheel hop with lowering springs.

And the only time I was able to do it in my car was shifting at fuel cut (7200 rpm) and it being at least a little cool (like below 60*) and crappy stock tires.

Of course the idea of breaking traction is not the point of racing, but it does sound cool and it surprises people when you do it.

One time on a cold morning (like 45*) I was driving my Cobra. I always have to let it idle for awhile because I run 15w50 oil in it, since it is supercharged and has some blowby. Well my drag radials dont like the cold at all. They get super super stiff, almost like plastic. Well I was driving for a little bit so they had warmed up a little bit and I thought they were fine. I was getting on the expressway and merged pretty much like normal (normal for a 500hp car, mind you). I changed lanes once i was up to about 60mph and put in into 3rd and gave it some gas to get around a guy. As soon as I was pointed straight I gave it maybe 50% throttle and as soon as the boost came on the tires started smoking. I mean like I could see a cloud behind me. Amazingly the car never got squirrley, but it sure looked scary I'm sure. Couple minutes later a guy in a vette passed and gave me a thumbs up.

Point is, temperature and tires are the main factors here (and power level of course, but lets assume we all all 260hp). During a warm day I struggle to break free 2nd gear full throttle in my Cobra.

Its cool to see/hear, but really our cars dont make enough power to do it on a warm day with decent tires. PLUS we have limited slip, which can make a difference.

My brother has an 05 Altima SE-R, and he can burnout until 80mph if he wanted to. But he's got an open diff and crappy tires.
