There is guy up the street with a manual 528i, and I can blow the doors off that thing.

I raced one in San Jose two weekends ago in the worst POS rental car I've ever had- a Chevy Cavalier w/20k *rough* miles on it. The 528 must've been an automatic because it was so slow. There was no question he was trying his hardest since the lanes merged to one up ahead and he purposely changed lanes approaching the light so he could try to squeeze by me. We both floored it at exactly the same moment and I couldn't believe the Cavalier was slowly pulling on him. He had to back off then drop behind me. I pulled into the turn lane at the next light so he was then one car in front of me and he was giving me the dirtiest looks he could possibly muster. I tried to keep a straight face during his stare-down and then just broke up laughing after I turned. That Cavalier was like a big go-cart with sheet metal wrapped around it so a Type S would obliterate a 528, based on that experience...

I blew a 530i off the road (had the sport package, whatever I know)- guy was really pissed, and the nut sack next to him gave some dirty look after I let him pass

You shouldn't even worry about the 328i, 328ci,528,530 or 740iL. The CL-S should be able to take them on with no real stress in a straight line 0 to 60. The 528 has a inline 6 that produces 193hp or 200, but it is no challenge for your Cl-S in 5 speed auto or SS. I have a 98Jetta VR6 with just an cat back exhaust system and it can take all of the car mentioned except for the 740 and of course the CL-S. The 528 is a heavy car for the smallsix it had that's why BMW went with the 3.0 across the board with 3 and 5 series.
But remember be respectful to the two Beast of the road M3 and M5 the ultimate car but f-----g expensive.
Enjoy the race and kick some butt coming and going.

Blow the doors off? If you weren't aware, the 528i manual goes from 0 to 60 in about 6.9 seconds and hits the 1/4 mile in 15.3 secs @ 91mph. I'm sure you were aware of this, but it slipped your mind. You can beat that car, yes, but blow the doors off of it? umm...no.

The race wasn't even close to 70 MPH -- I was at least 4 cars ahead -- OK
I consider that a "blow" the doors off the car -- ok.
I can't help it if he got a "slow" 528i. I had another neighbor with an older M3, and that thing was scary fast -- go figure.

not really a challenge. i raced one friday night going into san francisco. we were both merging from one freeway to another. he was on the inside lane and i was on the outside lane. i gave him plenty of room but he just couldn't keep up. after about 80mph i was gone. i kept going until 120mph just so he wouldn't think he had a chance to catch up. i'm not sure we can take the 540 though. those things are pretty quick and deserves some respect.

I think there's a possibility that the guy I raced (see above) did the opposite and upgraded his badging, based on the expected times you posted above. I did see a 528 emblem- it was just surprisingly slow (or the Cavalier felt a lot slower than it actually was).

After wiping the street with all comers, plainly state (when they ask you to roll down the windows), "I like to use good gas and I run Denso Iridiums, looks like your car could use a good tune-up. BTW -- do you have any Grey Poupon? Got to go -- tata..."
(Or even better, just re-badge and tell people that you have an electro-fuel-transistor installed by Pep-Boys for $29.95)
