Question Can the OEM battery still be bad when Indicator is Green??

My original battery still has the green dot on the viewing hole but battery is dead?? It even says that if it is green, then it is sufficiently charged. Battery only had 11.95 volts sitting (car off). My original battery is less than 3 years old and I only have 17k miles. I don't see how it could've died this quickly but batteries can be batteries. I just want to make sure it's not something with the charging/electrical system.

The green eye only tell you the battery is suffeciently charged for testing and it's only checking the sg on one of the six cells. It won't tell you if your battery is good or not.

FL heats kills car batteries. Mine went, all my friends who have Acura's went in 3 years or less.
And yes it can still be bad.

11.95 is fine for the battery when car is off, since its only a 12V battery. When you start the car and the alternater is charging it shoudl jump up to around 14.5

Didn't someone mention in another thread that lack of driving can also cause the battery to go dead?

Yeah that's true also. Beacuse the car sits the battery looses it's charge, when it's started again it takes more to recharge it each time. That cuts battery life.

Found out why battery died.....Acura tied down was tightened so hard by acura that it slightly cracked the top and the battery was bulging A LOT on the sides. Acura would NOT sell me a battery outright without paying for installation. They were giving me half off the battery but there is no way I'm gonna pay $50 to put a battery in. Just went to wal-mart and bought the correct battery. Car started right up!

get something else, meaning not acura batteries. Get like a optima or something. And $50 to install a battery is a rip

I highly doubt that was the cause. Batteries don't die like that. Combo of FL heat, use, & age.

Walmart is fine I guess. If it suits your needs.

I've used Walmart one's before and they last just as long as any other battery i've ever used including Die Hard and Interstate. Plus they're cheaper and their is no fuss when returning or exchanging at Walmart.

IMO, optima red tops are one of the best.......yellow tops are primarily used for marine applications......go with the red top (especially if you are pushing an audio setup), and you will be amazed!

I thought it was the other way around, you sure the yellow isnt the automotive application? Cuz thats what everyone runs in their car that I know.

Blue is marine, yellow is deep cycle stereo & starting, red is a starting battery. You can use any of them for anything really. I have a redtop in my Explorer & it runs my stereo & off road lights just fine.

I got a regular Acura battery when I needed one. It gets the job done. I don't think it's really necessary to get an Optima unless you are running a pretty big stereo.
