Can a coil be tested?
I have a "check engine code" It is for a #1 cylinder misfire.
I am going to replace the plug first.
If that does not cure it, then replace the coil.
My question is this.
Can the coil be tested to see if it is bad?
If so, how?
Thanks.

Before you replace anything, swap the coil pack with one from another cylinder....clear the code....and see if the code follows the coil pack. That will tell you if it is bad.
Or you can test it with a DMM (digital multimeter) set to resistance/ohm mode. I forget what the typical reading should be, but test it along with the rest of them and see how they compare. If the suspect pack reads significantly different, then it is probably bad.
Don't just needlessly replace parts....do a little troubleshooting first.....it could save you some money and you'll learn something as well.
