Camber issues with Comptech springs (Jens?)...

Just got the Comptech springs installed on Sat and had an alignment today. Toe was out in the front, but it's fixed now. However, the rear camber on the right side is out of specs by 0.1 degrees and they told me the right rear tire will wear unevenly.

Has anyone else had this problem? What were your rear camber results?

My rear camber

Left rear
Actual: -0.9 degrees
Before: -0.8 degrees
Range: -1.0 to 0.0 degrees

Right rear
Actual: -1.1 degrees*
Before: -1.0 degrees
Range: -1.0 to 0.0 degrees

* This one is out of specs

Are these numbers good? BTW, my headlights were still aligned (no adjustment needed) after the new springs were installed.

My numbers were exactly the same as yours. 0.1 is not really out of spec. Most specs have a tolerance on the low side because engineers (including myself) will always protect our hinnies. I have 3k miles without any excessive wear. How was the Goodson service dept?

I thought they were pretty nice. I bought my car at Vandergriff because Goodson wouldn't make a deal. On the other hand, Goodson will deal on parts and labor whereas Vandergriff won't. Go figure!

BTW, thanks for the info. I was a little worried because it was out of specs, but had a feeling that there was a fudge factor. When I was in the Air Force, everything on our aircraft had a fudge factor to it. But, that factor is there for a reason.

Jens did the install and alignment on my car and said my car's left rear wheel was off about the same. I've been checking the wear and so far so good but rotating the tires more frequently is something that should help this. Also installing camber kits is an option although I forget if Comptech's camber kit is only for front or rear. I hope they are for rear because if memory serves wayneg (Park Ave manager) said that fronts probably wouldn't need any camber correction.

.1 of a degree seems to be the typical number that comes up with Comptech springs and as such is not something I would worry about.Granted I would prefer to see the car below 1.0 degrees camber but this is not attainable with lowering springs unless you install camber correction kits. For now keep an eye on the inside edges of your rear tires should any wear become apparent then it is time to proceed to camber kits.By the way Comptech sells rear camber kits at this time and is working on a front camber kit.If your camber in the rear approaches or exceeds 1.5 then you will definitely see tire wear but at 1.1 you should be alright.Increase you tire rotation schedule a bit to help matters along.Jens

I called Comptech earlier today and they do have the rear camber correction kits now. They are $179 each!

Jens - First off, let me say that I am very impressed with you knowledge and patience when dealing with all of our questions and concerns! I sure wish other mechanics from around the country would take the time to do the same.

I will keep an eye on the tire wear and plan to have them rotated every 6000 miles now instead of 7500 (unless it's needed sooner).

Thanks again!

You're welcome.I have to agree on the price of the correction kits seems steep then again consider the price of new tires.I look at it this way although it is an expensive way to go it is also a one time deal once they are in the car your tires will benefit long term which in turn means less money spent long term. But for now just keep an eye on things and see if a problem develops.Jens

How much are the camber kits going for right now? I know im definitely goign to need a front and rear pair...cuz those eibachs really screwedup my camber. I dont particularly want to go comptech since they like to kill anyone on prices...are there any other kits out there?

Do i really have to spend like 700 just to fix my freaking camber? CHecked auto car parts and the kits are so pricey and then you have installs....

oh goodie.

Speaking of Camber & alignment.
Can the stock CL-S rims/wheels fit on the Premium model?
Will rubbing be an issue?
Will adjustments have to be made?

Mike - how much did Goodson charge for the labor? Did you buy the parts from them also?

All Goodson did was the alignment, which was $59 (they matched Vandergriff). I ordered the springs from http://wwwAutoCarParts.com/ and had them installed by Jotech in Garland.

They did a good job. Took about 1.5 hours and they charged me $150. Although, they have been charging others $200.

Ask avengerjr where he got his put on, they did it for $150 and he said they were excellent.

Yo Yo Yo...peep this...yeah right, like I talk like that!

P-Man, I got my H&R OE Springs from a friend on the TL board, not Tim (snook), paid $130 total (including shipping) for them.

Got them installed at Intercrew in Richardson for $150 (hookup), but I don't think they would charge much more than that. Install took about 3.5 hours, .5 hour wait while finishing up another car in front of mine, a civic getting a shortshifter. They are very detailed and make sure it is done right. So I didn't mind the extra wait time, because everything exceeded my expectations!

I would highly recommend them, and if you mention my name, well you get nothing, but hey what do you want from me!

come to the lunch meet next thursday 14th, check it out in the events forum.

that way you can see mine side by side with MikeN's

Then we all will see the difference in person between the Comptech's and H&R OE's.
