It seems to me that American Honda does not care about people who buy their products.
I was planning to drive my 2001 CLS to Florida, but I am affraid of the transmission failing somewhere in Georgia. So after spending $ 31000 for a car I have to fly and rent a car in Florida. I think it's time we notify: NHTSA, consumer TV programs car and consumer magazines about the problems with our cars. Maybe this will wake up Acura.

Don't get me wrong, it's ok to be concerned about problems and issues but whatever actions you take absent of your fears becoming true is on you, it's your responsibility, and you must bear the costs. [Un]fortunately, that's the way America works. Why? Because there will always be someone with all kinds of [unfounded] fears that they believe is reasonable based on the facts or not based on the facts.
If Mr. Kurt Antonius had wrote back to you and said "We are working diligently.... Your car is built with excellent quality.... We take pride....Acura Care is there for you...", would you have driven?
How about this. If you are so concerned about your car breaking down on the road, let's say your $31,000 car is perfect and not an issue. But we all know that a great car is not all it takes to save your a** on the road. What else have you proactively done to show that you are really concerned about trip interruption? AAA? Extra auto insurance? Trip interruption service? What else?
My point here is that there are other more viable resources that serve as a proper medium to deal with your fears, that are better used to ensure a safe and successful trip for you. They were designed specifically for this. You drive and if your car breaks down in Columbia, SC you get trip interruption car, hotel, and cash, and a one-way tix back home from FL to NY and they take your car and deliver it back to NY fixed (i.e. you get whatever benefit you ask/pay for). You still get a trip and a minor inconvenience.
BTW, of course you didn't pay anything to American Airlines but I don't believe that by simplying paying $31,000 to a dealership for a car with a supposed reliable reputation is enough to insure a trouble-free roadtrip but that's just my opinion.
Man, where is the love.......
Anyways, newer car washes now have pressure rails on the inside, to guide your vehicle by the inside of your rims.
When I purchased my CLS it was obvious to me the wheels stuck out further than the tires, but I liked the look. The wheels are nice and with the proper care will last. Wheels will get scratched or chipped regardless if they stick out beyond the tires or do not stick out.
As for blaming Acura, no way. The wheels were on the vehicle when you purchased it.
