California Duster

I just purchased the California Duster and the California Dash Duster from

www.autobarn.com

It was the best deal I could find on the combo of these two items. The Califonia Duster was $12.95 (everywhere else: ~$20) and the California Dash Duster for $8.99. Shipping was $5.95 and no tax (in CA).

I bought this set based on recommendations from people here. Hopefully I will get as much use out of this as the others who love this item. Thanks everyone.

Is the Cali Duster laundry machine safe?

Also, What do you guys have as car covers?
I'm looking for an effective, inexpensive
cover that is "breathable" and waterproof

damn, I checked with the genuine custom fit CL cover (acura.com), and it costs $219

I've been using my California Duster since 1990! I have never washed it and it still does a great job. Have to get a new handle because the plastic one broke. It still smells like it did when I first got it.

i have a few of them laying around the house. they are pretty usefull but you gotta use them and get them dirty before they are really effective at first they will leave lil smudges. I do not recommend using them on dark cars, they do scratch a lil.

I own one of those California Duster thing of a jigs. Used it like 2 times and now it just sits there in its nifty little bag hanging in my garage. Unless you really care about dusting your car every week, I don't think its worth it. Just get out the hose and wash you car at that point. I would only recommend it to people who have classic cars or show cars.

My handle is made out of wood and I got the leather cover for it too I love it.
Its for those inbetween car wash times when you need a quick shine. Hell, I cali dust my car every morning. Used it on 3 cars and it still works great. about 4 years old.

If you all want the one w/ the wood handle go to brookstone or sharperimage They're version of the caliduster is basically the same thing but has a nice wood handle and leaher cover for it.

Also don't forget the Cali Dash Duster for all those times your stuck at a long red light and have nothing better to do than dust yo Dash.

And the water blade....

Okay, I should be a salesperson for these guys.

1) Yes, the cali duster is laundry safe. Although they say the dirtier they are the better they work, so as long as there isn't anything in there that would scratch your paint, it's probably not necessary to wash it. I know mine originally had gray threads and now they're black

2) Car covers.
Blue Ribbon Motoring... find their ad in the back of Car&Drivel (sp intentional). Evolution 4 car cover, custom fit for $125+shipping. You'll get it in a week or two. I've ordered two from them (one for the CL-S and one for my old Accord). They are lightweight (about 7-8 lbs) and fit very well. They'll claim that they are waterproof, but they're not. They'll keep a light mist off the car but even a light rain for more than 5 minutes will get your car wet. They do BREATHE however and the car will dry out with the cover on it.

The California Duster is wax impregnated so never use on a warm car much less a hot car. They do seem to work better when used for awhile. I have had one for 10 years and never washed it because there are no instructions to wash. I don't know who said it but they do scratch a black car but no more than anything else you use. Hell, a towel will scratch a black car. That's what swirl and scratch remover is for.

I use it on my ol' Pontiac LeMans convertible which is a car I never wash. It has never seen a raindrop much less a car washing. With a good coat of wax, the duster works wonders. If your car is not waxed, don't even try!

Of course I use the California WaterBlade, even though FabSix says they are sh*t but I bought an absorber like he said and it works too. I guess it's all a question of what floats your boat.

Yes, laundry safe, but don't need to do it IMO.

and yes the dirtier it gets yes it works better. Mine works really good. like 4 years old, black dirty good.

They have some special wax baked on the duster so I never washed it thinking it might remove the 'speical' stuff.

for all those neat freaks and people who keep there car waxed 24/7 (SHAWN).
HIGHLY, I MEAN HIGHLY reccommend this .

Or if your a lazy SOB like me who never waxes your car and just takes it to the carwash by hand places this is also good. Esp right after it rains its awesome how it gets all the water marks out.

go get them now.

you can get a cali duster at walmart for $9.95 + tax. It says you can wash it by hand in luke warm water with a mild detergent like woolite. I dont see how you can put it in the washing machine...mine doesnt come off the handle.

My car is white, and no wax or not its not hot. I do it in the morning, and whenever I'm bored waiting for someone while I'm at my car.

I think clpower is right, its probably not dirty enough. I also use it to get the black scuff marks my shoes leave on the car w/ the caliduster. If rubbing w/ it don't work , I grab a little piece and rub the living crap out of it on the stain and it gets it right off.

Just called CA Car Cover to order a new plastic handle for my duster and was informed that they don't sell them that way! I told him that I've replaced one in the past. He said it wasn't available.

Oh well, it's still usable the way it is, but a full handle would be better. I've had mine since 1990 and I've never washed it either. Still smells like it did when I bought it. It is dirty, but still cleans great.

CLPower has stock in the Original California Car Cover Co and he wants you to buy from him..... there is no difference. Over the years they have switched from a blue plastic handle to a wooden one. The orginal one had a removable handle, the new one doesn't. I have one of each along with the dash duster. They all work well. There is something funny about it though, the dirtier it is, the better it works. Go figure!

I think the difference is the brand name, the duster looks the same, not sure about the performance though. It's prob the same duster but packaged for wal mart.

There is a secret to the dusters used on the entire car. If you pour a little amount of motor oil on the duster and let it dry, you will notice a much better dusting response without any residue. I use it all the time and it works great. Keeps me from washing my car all the time.

Urine works much better. Most glass cleaners have amonia in them and so does urine. So... just drink a cup of coffee before you leave work, and by the tine you get home you're all set.

I would try that except I don't clean my glass w/ my caliduster, only my paint and even if I did amonia takes tint off so it wouldn't be really smart. Why don't u try it and let us know how it works out.

You'll have a very 'yellow car' cand it'll smell NATURAAAL~~.
