CAI whistle/hissing noise

Just curious...is it normal for the CAI to hiss at certain lower RPM's...I thought you could only hear it after 5000RPM?? It sounds like crap when I'm driving down my neighborhood, makes my car sound like it's broken or something. I've seen other posts saying that this is normal but goes away after the engine is heated up. In my case it still hisses after the engine is hot.

It doesn't constantly hiss, just at certain RPM, between 2000-3000, and 3000-4000RPMs. Anybody have this problem? Or is this normal?? I've checked all the connections to see if there was a leak or something and everything checked out.

Well, I have the Injen... but they should perform similarly. Like you mentioned... mine only hisses at low RPMs when the engine is cold. I've never heard it hissing after a few minutes or when at higher RPMs.....

I'm not sure what exactly you can do about that. My guess is to check all of your connections on your hoses and the CAI connection to the throttle body.....

I haven't driven for longer that 5-10 minutes since my commute to work is pretty quick, but I figured after 5 minutes the engine would be warm enough and the CAI wouldn't hiss as much. I'll have to see if it makes that noise after 10 minutes.

It's just embarrassing that people look at my car not because it looks but since it sounds like

no hissing at all after it warmed up! Make sure that the hoses clamps are tight!

Mine hisses when:

1. It's cold
2. After heavy throttle. Makes a short pssst sound when you let off.
3. A/C compressor comes on and off. Also makes a faint hiss when A/C is on. Noticeably louder hiss when acelerating with A/C on.
4. Turning the lights on
5. Putting the windows down
6. When I turn the car off.

Also if you pop the hood or listen underneath the bumper you can hear the hiss.

Personally, I love the sound of it sucking air when it's cold.

I agree with mistacanyon. Mine hisses for the same reasons. It's alot more noticable when the AC is used. It's always on in south FL

hissing is normal

I have the Injen and mine hisses at low rpms sometimes, it hisses in the mornings for a little. it'll hiss if the ac kicks in or something. it's the sound of air and if you don't like it, you'll have to replace it but i really like the sound of it, especially when you floor it. never bothered me, but personal taste. nothing to worry about though, nothing wrong with yours.
