CAI to SRI ..

hey, i have an AEM cai on my 01 type s. It is risky to have a cold air in south florida.. especially the weather we have been having latley. So i've decided to just cut my cold air .. not drastically shorter .. just maybe a 5 - 6 inches shorter .. has any1 tried this?? Does any1 suggest it? I dont' feel like buying a bypass. I have the saw and everything in my house so it wouldnt cost me anything .... any ideas or tips would be appreciated thanks.

what's the point? does shortening it improve it's function in warmer weather or something? or is this to reduce the likely hood of water getting in. I just don't understand why you would want ot shorten it

He'd shorten it for the rain and such.

I cut away my fender liner for better air induction so my filter is exposed on a CAI so when it rains I simply have my CAI in 2 pieces I take the lower half off and turn it into a short ram so it's not as exposed to the rain. The downside of this is I have to clean my filter more often since it's in the wide open w/ no fender liner covering it.

If you're going to cut it shorter I'd cut it with the bypass valve in mind. I wish I'd cut mine further down--kinda make it like the short-ram. Then if/when u re-install the entire thing (either with a bypass valve or tubing & clamps).

but basically yeah, just cut it shorter & install the filter on the end. But save the cut piece for when you want the entire CAI.

Exactly.. if you're really concerned.. get a by-pass.

I had the AEM & other s FL guys have too without a bypass, & haven't had any problem. If you have a worry then just buy the bypass, I'm sure you could get a deal on it from someone.

These bypass don't last very long. Several threads brought up the broken bypass. The easiest way, as suggested earlier, is cut it up where there is room for the filter. It makes cleaning a lot easier
