CAI install question

Ha ha, I have a CAI install question!!!
I posted this question to Gallery which isn't all that useful so....

This is regarding the hose crud mainly commented in this thread:
http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...42#post1151542

The stock installation has short rubber tubes that connect to a thin metal pipe thing.

Now I assume the entire idea here is to remove the thin metal pipe thing, and replace the short hoses with longer hoses that reach to the other end (where the metal pipe was connected to)

How come you don't need some sort of metal fitting to connect two rubber pipes? (Like a really short version of the metal tube thing)?

Am I missing something here?

Basically you take off ALL the piping from the connection to the engine from the metal pipe. You will know your doing the right thing when all is left near the engine is a metal prong with a hole in it.

You put the AEM supplied hose onto that and use one of those clips to hold it well. The other end of the hose obviously goes into the intake.

The other supplied hose connects to another metal prong under the VSA assembly (which I thought was a bitch to get to). For reference, a hose originally goes from that VSA location to that infamous metal "double" pipe that you remove.

Once you connect the other supplied AEM hose to that VSA prong (w/ clip to hold it well), route the hose around the back of the engine bay and connect to the other connector on the intake.

I hope you understand this

BTW: "How come you don't need some sort of metal fitting to connect two rubber pipes? (Like a really short version of the metal tube thing)?" If your talking about the rubber OEM tube that is near the front of the engine, you need to pull that off (a LOT of force too!). It should reveal a metal prong w/ a hole in it.

I've seen many CL with the intake installed incorrectly with the metal pipes even those installed by the dealers. Correctly installed, the metal pipe should be remove, use 1 hose to replace the coolant metal line and another hose (both supplied by AEM) to replace the vacumn line as seen below
