The bypass valve works on hydraulic principals. Basically, if you were to submerge the intake filter of your CAI in water, the ability to draw water into your engine is negated by the bypass valve. It draws air in instead so the engine can still breathe while the filter is drowning. Water in pistons = new engine!

basically it prevents water from getting into your engine by letting air in from another the by pass rather than the filter, ONLY if the filter is submerged in water.
I think the answer your going to get is half and half.
Some people say its not worth risking and purchase it , some people say our cars are too high and the splash guard will never let the filter get submerged in water.
Also some say it hurt performance, some say it doesn't. my opionion changes everytime I hear something new. but Sports compact did do a review on the aem by pass valve and it indeed did prevent hydro lock but the filter was totally submerged in water. (higly unlikly) but when the filter was pulled right out of the water it did let some water up the pipe since the pressure don't change when its not totally submerged. well anyways im going on forever. hey just do a serch okay?
