bye bye CL
I LOVE MY CL...Sure I would love a new G35/'Z06/S2k...But for where I live, it is the BEST all year, all around car out there IMO...RWD does not make sense with the rough winters we have and me only having 1 vehicle
The only other FWD/AWD vehicles with as much power AND class are either way too expensive or wayyy too common (Altima, Max, Accord)
I'll be around here for a while - WITH my CLS
...unless I win the lottery or have a very successful Atlantic City trip

I would assume that unless a car is going to be a collectors car, that when a car is not being produced anymore no one wants it anymore. I mean the trade in value isn't going up. Its not holding its value in the market, and really overall there is no place for a cl in the market it seems. Guess thats why its being discontinued, and i think people are just looking out for their best financial interests. Jump ship while you still can, cause these cars are depreciating faster and faster

I, for one, did not buy my car as an investment. From your previous posts, it sounds like you did, and when you realized the cost of ownership, you jumped ship, after losing a few grand and a better car. I'm not interested in making money off my car. I bought it to drive and take me from place to place, and won't be selling it anytime soon. I don't care about its resale value because I have NO plans on selling it. Not now, not in 2 or 3 or even 5 years. If it lasts me 200k miles, and depreciates to a few thousand dollars, that's fine.
Cars don't appreciate in value, and therefore jumping ship because it's a depreciating asset is foolish, and ignorant.
And yes, there's a place for a CL. Those of us who don't want an ordinary, common Accord, but want something flashy with some additional bells and whistles. Honda reliability + Acura quality has a niche.

I'm totally kidding, I still love CL's.
first of all i understand finance, don't worry your not the only one who went to college. The only reason i jumped ship is to save money on monthly payments. I originally did not buy my car to make an investment cause overall all cars are a depreciating asset. I figured that it would be beneficial for me to get out of my loan up front before I continued to lose more money over time. By doing so I only lost the original value of my trade in, which wasn't necessarily money in my pocket. So I walked away with losing a couple grand up front, not over the long term. I completely understand the way financing and leasing work, and to be honest I wish I would have leased the car and only paid for the depreciation while I had the car, not over the life. Especially since i only plan on keeping cars for about 3-4 years. It was just at the time i was putting way to many miles on it to lease. Driving your car till the wheels fall off is honestly the only way to make out when buying a car, but honestly who the hell wants to drive a cl in 7 years when things are going wrong and your taking it to the shop often to have things fixed. Ideally its great to believe that your car is going to last a long time and your going to drive it to the limit, but when it comes down to it your going to want a new car. Anyone who has driven an old car knows what kind of maintence it requires and it is often not worth having to deal with. And i know you think there is a niche in the market for the CL but obviously you don't work for honda/acura and they don't believe there is one, the CL line must be losing money and they plan on recoving those loses with only producing the accord line. Either way i don't care, I liked my CL but wouldn't buy an Acura again, but would buy a honda cause you get just about everything an Acura has but for less money. I mean my interior for my honda right now is pretty damn similar to my CL.
Regaldless of what it comes down too, no one buys a car and expects to get nothing for it when they trade it in, thats a fact. Otherwise you wouldn't take such good car of it, you do cause your keeping your investment safe for the future. You can't dispute that, you want to make sure your investment is still holding its value even in the wonder years of your car.

Oh...I
my car too!
If someone buys a car with expectations that it will become a collectors item, boy are the in for a hole in the pocket book shock. The way some people on this board drool over the G35, it sounds like they already have storage blocks waiting in their garage for their G35. Who knew that a '65 Mustang would be a collectors car back almost 40 years ago? Or an Olds 442, or an early Cougar with sequential rear turn signal lights? By todays standards, all those cars are p.o.s. boats (IMHO). Most of the "classics" have not been based on horsepower and handling, but classic styling lines that, like wine, seem to improve with age. In some cases they become classics because they have survived the test of time and are still around. Now days though, there are too many people who are just not satisfied with driving a car for driving sake. Granted, we all have dreams, but dreams are not reality. Sure. I'd like to drive a Carrera S4 or a Ferrari, but I'd have to win the lottey or sell drugs to afford one. In my boring 24 mile drive to work, I look around me and notice that 99% of the other cars on the road do nothing to excite me. When I see a G35 sedan I see a Passat look-alike. I really like the G35 coupe though, but not enough to jump ship. I'm one of those who, not having tons of expendible money, has learned to live with and stay with a car until it strikes back and begins to breakdown, etc. Nothing like that yet with the CL, so here I stay.

Reddly, the Accord interior is much different than the Acura. The buttons, the console does not have gaping holes in it.. the knobs.. the center console is much nicer.. the auto seats, the buttons for garage openers and such (the name escapes me at the moment), driver memory seats, the white gauges on the s, the temperature, etc etc...

People will always move on to new things. It just the way it is. In three years or so you'll see plenty of posts on the Z and G35 boards about people moving on to other things.

I said the interiors were similar, not the same, nor would i expect them to be the same cause you pay more for the CL, and by the way if you look at my accord you see all the similarities. By the way i have the same stupid garage door opener buttons, the radio, 6 disc cd changer in-dash is the same, the a.c. (non-navi) is very similar if not the same, i have a power driver seat, no memory settings, and i'm sure they share many other similar attributes cause they ideally are the same car, its like the camry and the es300. One is economical and the other is luxurious, but the difference isn't that different.
I'm totally with mc222 and Lou on this one. I had an '01 CL-S auto, and after angsting baout it for a long time, recently got an '03 CL-S 6 speed. Preferences in cars are a very personal thing, and everyone's likes and dislikes are very individual - there are few outright "rights" and "wrongs". For me, the CL-S 6 speed is still an incredible bargain, and the best compromise out there for a car I have to drive in the real world (meaning, snow and rain).
Sure, RWD like the G35 may be better driving at 10/10ths at the track. But realistically, how often do most of us do that? Realistically, most of the time I drive on regular roads, maybe at 6/10ths or 7/10ths on back roads for the fun of it. At that level, a great FWD car like the CL-S doesn't lose much to RWD.
I also have to drive through snow and ice in the winter. I've owned 94 cars in my life (yes, 94), and while tires make a big difference, the bottom line for me is that FWD or AWD is still preferable over RWD in the snow.
In the real world (not the fantasy track world), I also need a trunk to carry stuff in, and a back seat big enough to fit a couple of adult sized humans and not legless midgets. I looked long and hard and test drove a lot of cars this year before I went for the CL-S 6 speed, and for me, it still won out over the competition. The G35 looks great, but again, in the real world, it's 1) RWD, which won't be as good in the snow, 2) has a smaller trunk, 3) has a back seat that most adults won't like to ride in, and 4) was almost $10,000 more.
I also test drove the M3 - twice, for over an hour each time. I know this might be blasphemy to the bimmer-lovers, but, while it sure is a nice car, it just didn't do it for me. It just didn't feel like a $50,000 car. To me it just isn't worth twice what a CL-S 6 speed
costs.
So, back to the real world again - I wanted a good looking, fast, comfortable, fun to drive, practical (FWD or AWD with a decent trunk and livable back seat) car, and for the money, I didn't see anything else out there that compared to the CL-S 6 speed.
