buzzing noise?

buzzing noise?

i have a 01cls auto. when i first put the car in drive there is a buzzing noise that sounds like it's coming from the engine. it sounds like an electric motor is engaging. any ideas on what it is?

Welcome newbie! That buzzing noise is COMPLETELY normal. Its the ABS system basically warming up. No need to worry about it. You will hear it when starting the car, you hear it about two times.

it is normal, but I don't think it is actually the abs...

I think it is the vsa cycling on startup. my 01 (with vsa) did it, but my 03 (no vsa) doesn't. obviously, both the 01 and 03 have abs.

it is the abs. it does it at startup and again at around 4 mph or so. it makes a low rumbling, vibrating sound for a second or two and then stops. completely normal.
