Buying a legend
Buying a legend
Sup people
Ok in a few months the lease on my family's oldsmobile alero will run out, and rather than shell out $10k on the buyout, im trying to convince my dad to buy a used legend. From all reports on this forum, it is the best acura every built. So, what are some of the guidelines and things to watch for for buying one? I was thinking about a mid-90s 4 door legend with the type II engine (230 hp right?) and MT (i dont know if its 5 speed or 6 speed). How much would something with arround 40-50k miles cost?
Thanks in advanced

They hold their value VERY WELL.
I sold my 91 Coupe w/ 5-Speed for 11,500 dollars back in early 2000.
It had 110,000 on the clock.
Expect to pay 13-14K or MORE for a good condition 93-95 model….if you can find an owner willing to sell.

beautiful cars though... my 1996 3.2 tl had the exact same engine/tranny as the legend. mine was auto... 200hp 220lbs of torque if im not mistaken. i hear the trannys arent very solid after 100k.
built in japan, makes a huge difference.

Several trims and options available...
Coupe vs Sedan
Type I (200hp, 210lbs) mated with 5 sp MT or 4 AT
Type II (230hp, 206lbs) mated with 6 sp MT or 4 AT
Look for the GS sedan and LS coupe trim levels...these have all the options...climate control, heated seats, etc.
Prices are in the ballpark ShawnS mentioned.
Beware of two things...cracked radiator top and blown headgasket...have a mechanic give it a quick one over before a purchase. These are reliable Japanese beasts, we have several members in the 200K range and a few over 300K. I have 150K on my 94 Coupe, original tranny ( :P ) but I did have the blown HG
The youngest legend you could get would still be 8 years old...do not expect the car to be maintenence free...even with low miles. Happy hunting!
