Buying comptech headers tonight.. I NEED YOUR ADVICE

K so a local guy in toronto is selling a set of used comptech headers. I'm buying them for 450cad obviously and I am going to attempt to install them myself since I aint paying some goon 300 to install headers when i am perfectly capable.

So I know i cannot crack the CAT bolts off so I will be going to a shop and getting them torched off and new ones put on.

Given I can crack the cat bolts off, Do you think i will be able to get the other bolts off without impact tools?

please let me know.

Also i thinking about getting HEADER thermo wrap. Would you guys also reccomend that or what?

Plz let me know.

Either way I got headers by the end of the night.

any header wrap will work. BUT. make sure u put that special paint before u put the wrap on bc if oil/ grease / water gets in between the wrap and metal it will start to rust faster than if the wrap wasnt on. then u need to put a special sealer to stop the oi/water from getting inside the wrap.

i had to cut off my cat bolts and put in new ones.

if your going to DIY, you'll probably need a impact wrench. Use an electric one if you dont have a compressor.

Plus I only paid 100 bucks to get my headers installed. look around.

You're not going to know if you can crack the bolts until you're under the car, unless you've already inspected them. I had no problem throwing mine on. The bolts on the cat came off will little convincing. Getting the car on jackstands and getting enough space to work was the key.

They're just discolored from the neat... no rust atall.

HOLY SHIT am I excited.

Once these things go on the car will be a whole nother beast

thanks, I've been hunting for 2 1/2 months now and it just so happens it was a local member on here (Wes_R) that contacted me while I was in the pursuit of dc headers.

And I just POUNCED on the opportunity. Luckily I had a half g sitting around just for this scenario.

Finally saving came in handy.

am I guaranteed to get the header rattle?

I've done a fair share of reading this morning and I keep hearing about people and them having this friggin rattle at idle in there AT cars.

Will this likely happen to me... if so how do I fix it?

Will wrapping the headers and downpipe help?

well, the rattle is caused by thin metal used in the xs headers and also the kind of flex pipe that is on their. havent heard anything bad about the comptechs.

Wes is a good guy...does great detailing work if you ever want that done.

You can try using a hack saw to get the bolts off.

really? I also plan on wrapping the headers also for noise reduction and heat transfer purposes.

Sweet, so maybe I won't be so unlucky

yea and he has an unorthodox pulley set (3 pullies) all black. Didn't ask him for the price tho.. 450 was enough of a hit at one time for something I don't even need technically... LOL but it's the best 450 i think i ever spent on a car..

actually screw the wrap I just did a lil more reading and read about ppl cracking their headers and all sorts of moisture problems and re-wrapping issues..

I'll just return my shyt get the 70$ back and use that $ to get the bolts and gaskets I am missing. Then it's time to attempt this epic install!!

I plan on making a little DIY if all goes well.

I will be doing the P2R manifold gasket and headers at the same time so the manifold will be off the car. better pictures. Easier access.

I'd skip the header wrap. Not needed. Maybe if you had cheap headers & needed to fix flex pipe noises, but you have CT's you won't have those concerns.

75 feet of the wide stuff? way too much if u ask me. did u read on how its supposed to be wrapped? one strip is supposed to cover half of the other and u keep going like that.

1/4 inch overlap I read. And I did 1/2 inch. The entire J pipe up to the flex pipe. I got like 25-30 feet left of the wide stuff and I gotta buy the 1 inch stuff to do the headers themselves since the bends are so tight. But I know this is gonna turn out SOOO DAMN GOOD.

shyt... think I should get a b4 and after dyno ????? how many ppl wanna see that?

before and after dynos are great. it shows how much u gained. maybe 1/4" for na. boost creates more heat so maybe more over lap.

Cover up the badge man, anyone you want to know they're comptechs will already know.
This reminds me of the people that ride around with 24" stickers on their car. Why,everyone who cares already knows what your rolling on.
Not downing you in anyway so dont get affended,I actually enjoy your posts and all the crap you go threw. Dont people jet hot coat their headers anymore?

Comtechs are not. They are Stainless steel. DC sports had 2 versions also. SS & ceramic coated.

Just put the headers on. Comptech has done dynos for their headers, so we know what the gains are basically. Just dyno it after they're on.

lol alright... well today I went and got more header wrap for the headers..
Since I used 80ft worth for the J pipe!!! and it's still wet I'm wating for that shyt to dry.

So it looks like sometime b4 friday night they will be on. I just know need to get the bolts.

Question about the COMPTECH GASKET WHERE IT MEETS THE CAT.

There is still what looks like an o ring gasket there. SO what do I do just bolt that up to my cat? or is there another exhaust o ring. that I need to get or what?

SOMEONE PLZ fill me in..

Aside from that all i need to get are the header o ring gaskets and the 6 bolts and 12 washers.

IS that all i need....

I got the parts for the CAT?? assuming I can get the cat bolts off which I can.
