buying a cls

I am about to buy a 2001 acura 3.2 cl type S. It has 55000 miles on it. It is on the first transmission. I am just wondering about the tranny. I read 100's of the posts in trans talk and I am just wondering if it is worth it to buy the car? Any input would be great thanks.

The car is covered until 100K for tranny issues...don't sweat that. The only thing I would sweat about the CL is resale value...if you're keeping it for a long time, go for it.

it was a salvage. It had flood damage. Would the warranty still be good? I doubt it. The car runs great and doesnt seem like there is anything wrong with the transmission.

Even if the tranny warranty was still go i would never buy a salvaged car with flood damage.

That price is really low but it ain't worth the potential trouble this car could have sometime down the road.

Well the whole story is that I am going to buy it from my dad. We have bought about 5 cars from the same guy and all have had salvage titles. We have never had any problems with the cars I am just worried about the transmission.

You should be okay....if you've had good luck before I don't see a problem with it. I know people who only get salvaged cars and they dont have problems with them.

Some trannys go within the first 10000K, since this is still original, i wouldnt worry...tranny does not affect everybody!, if youve bought from this dude in the past with no issues, then go for it...

post a pic if you can...

the only bad thing about resale with an r title IF you are going to trade it in,in a few years, you will not get more than a few thousand dollars for it.

i also had a r title escort about 10 years ago that was stolen so it was given r title, but i kep it until the wheels fell off so it did not matter

Yea I have noticed from reading all the posts with the tranny problems that they usually happen within around 20,000 miles. Thanks for the input I am going to buy it. I will post pics asap. Thanks again

Seems to be the "luck of the draw" with the tranny problems. Good luck with your CLS, it's a great car (except for those times when the tranny goes KAPOOT).

You mention you bought cars from this guy before,,,BUT...

Have you ever had a car with such complex electronics? That can be the BIG difference here.

If the car was a theft recovery, that's no big deal. But if it was a flood damaged vehicle...stay away. Too much can go wrong. Water can work it's way inside sealed parts of a tranny or other component...all depends on how long it sat in the high water
(which you will never really know). Seat motors, electric seats, radio & navi...etc, etc, etc could all be affected.

And I'd also question whether or not ANY warranty applies to that vehicle from Acura. You'd better check before you buy either way.

Check your state laws on salvage titled cars. I know some states have laws that ANY warranty is voided on a salvaged car. So that 100K tranny warranty is no longer good if this law applies. If it goes, you'll be stuck paying.

Flood damaged car would automatically void your tranny warranty. I would not touch any of those cars REGARDLESS OF PRICE. In addition, it has little resale value. You can get a good one for 15K so are you really saving that much? You know the old saying, you get what you paid for

You may not even be able to insure it. Flood damage is the worst thing for a car. I'd pass at that price.
