Insurance depends on how old you are. I am paying like $70 to $80 a month, I'm 24. I'm not sure exactly because it is on the same policy as my other car so i get a multi-car discount.

With $10,000 down, if you can get out the door for $33,000 (with spoiler, nav, tax, title, license) you are looking at around 7% to 9% for 48 months, if you have good credit. This would put your payments around $575.00 month, give or take a bit.

Assuming you really mean $10,000 and not $1,000...
First off, there is no way you should pay anywhere close to $33,000 for the car. Dealership managers often know very little about true finance, but they do understand the present value of money. If you're serious about putting that much down, make sure you bargain hard and (I can't say this enough) shop around! Check AT LEAST six dealerships. Call them over the phone and let them know you're serious about buying now, and that you're taking the best price. Don't tell them what you want to pay; make them tell you what they'll let you pay. Take the best price then bargain hard on that.

About the payment - you need a financial calculator. Buy one, spend the time and learn to use it and you'd be suprised how often it will come in handy.

Anyway, let's say that you finance $20,000 ($30,000 car price less $10,000 down payment). I think $30,000 is a pretty good negotiated price for one with navigation and spoiler. You've put $10,000 down, and the dealer should be more than willing to give you a better price due to the present value of the down payment to him. Very rarely will someone give the dealer that much up front. You're monthly payment, based on a 4 year (48 month) loan, at 6.75% APR (a good rate assuming you're credit is excellent, you're income is fair and you're not overextended) would be $476.61. Using the same terms with 8% APR pushes it up to $488.26.

Not to knock anyone else, I'm just giving you my $.02, but if you paid anywhere near the previously recommended $575/month with $10K down, you would be getting seriously ripped - on the verge of unconsciously defrauded.

Put your time into it and do your homework. You may want to consider less of a down payment unless it substantially reduces the purchase price on a percentage basis. If things were fair, it would, but you know how car dealers can be. Unfortunately, in this world some people are not honest. If you walked in and want to drop $10K and pay $575 a month, most would be glad to let you do it with no questions asked.

One final note - be cautious that the loan is indeed for 48 months. If you get it to a good montly payment easily through little negotiation, the dealership may be booking you into a 5 or 6 year loan and trying to slide it buy you. As always when you're signing something - read EVERYTHING and THINK! There's nothing wrong with saying you want to take a few hours (or even a day or two) and think things over. If the dealership tries to tell you the offer is only good now and that you must take it or leave it now, then leave it. If they worked the deal once they'll do it again when you're ready to buy.

Hope this helps. If you get a CL, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Regards,

mike

Actually yes you will pay $33,000. That price is including tax title license. roughly 10% of the price of the car!

my car leased was 479 with 1300 out of pocket. the OUP included 1st month payment, bank fees and fl registration(Its major expensice) and 260 cap reduction. this is on a leased cl-s with spoiler , tint, wheel lock, and moon roof visor, no navi. My car if i had bought would have been 28700 buvks out of showroom, wish i had navi to get that switch to turn it into tv

The price you pay depends on what area of the country you live in. The $30,000 I mentioned as a good negotiated price would be in Charlotte, NC. I saved a bit more by looking throughout the Carolinas.

I didn't include tax, tag and title in that figure because these amounts vary greatly from state to state.

Still, however, a dealer who is getting $10K down should be willing to give a much better cut off of MSRP, on a percentage basis, than one who is getting the standard $1,500 to $3,000.

Just trying to clear things up -

With rates as low as they are now, even Honda Financing Corp will give you a rate of 7.5% on the CL (if you have good credit).

Not a bad rate, and will probably go lower next month depending on the man Greenspan.

I just negotiated my CL w/o Nav and all the trimmings for 31.2K driveout from a SW Houston dealer. (not a steal, but a decent deal IMHO). I put 20K down and financed the rest at 7.5%. Tried using Eloans but apparently a lot of Houston dealers won't take their note....they complained it can take up to 6months for them to receive payment.

Cheers,

Smeg

I'm 25-I pay like $122 per month for my insurance...may not be the best deal, but I'm wondering what everyone else pays. I also bought my car for $31,000 (before taxes and fees) when it first came out...so I'm assuming you should even be able to get it cheaper than that now. I payed cash, no payments.

I'm also 25 and pay $90 per month for insurance. I paid $34,000 out the door in Southern California (before the sales tax reduction) without navi, but with spoiler, chromed CLS rims (+1600), wheel locks, and mudguards.

Ummm...financing depends on your area...check the interest rates. The dealer can't do anything because Acura/Honda aren't big enough to have their own Financing Group...they look for the best interest rate around for you. I got mine at 6.95%....from my credit union...they'll tell you...if you are in a credit union...they won't be able to beat the interest rate..this saved me $1000 in financing over 8.0% that they gave from Chases Manhattan.

I bought a silver type s (no nav) last month. Before TT&L I paid 28,689. I put 10k down and paid the TT&L. I financed 19k @7% for 60 monhts. My payments are 379/mo. I know, 60 months is a long term, but I will probably only keep the car 2 years or so. I will have plenty of equity left when I turn the car over.

As for insurance, I am 30. My previous car was a 97 2.2 cl. My monthly premium only went up about 5 bucks a month. I pay 88 / month.

Are you guys for real? Are CL-S's really going for $30-33k around the country? I'm in PA and just bought an '01 CL-S, black, tint, navi and spoiler (31k miles) for less than $19500, and that includes tax, title, etc. There are a few places around here that have a couple low milage ones pretty cheap, it might make sense to buy here and ship to your location, it could still save you a couple grand. If anyone is interested in these dealers let me know and I'll send you the info.
