buying advice please!
buying advice please!
I have been looking to pick up a used 01 CL-S but these tranny issues are really bugging me. I am looking to buy in the 35k mile range. Would it be better to:
A. Buy one with a tranny already replaced
B. Buy one with an "good" tranny that has not failed...yet
C. Buy another car and forget the CL-S.
I know about the 100k warranty thing but by what I have read a new tranny does not fix the problem.... Please let me know and provide any advice/info/experiences. Thank you.

um, i owuld say get one that hasnt had a failed tranny. there you have abouy a 2-3% chance of getting a bad apple. in theory, if you get one iwht a replaced tranny it should be "upgraded" as to not fail. but it seems to me that people that have single transmission failures are morel likely to have another. i think the car is worth getting, becuase you can get good prices for used 01's cause they didnt hold their value well.

I know that these are the numbers they have claimed, but there have been way too many "multiple" tranny failures (including my beloved '01 TLP that blew two in one week).
My $.02...
i agree w. devnull - there are waaaaaaaay too many complaints. I think Ill be buying an audi, i feel for you current CLS owners because it doesnt seem like the problem will ever be permenantly fixed.
I have an 01 & 02 CLS, both on their first tranny...??? 2-3% failure may be right.
My 01 is for sale, $19K, 34K miles...& I plan on buying an 03 since they're giving some pretty hefty discounts. It's a good car overall, regardless of the tranny.
