Brand new Maxima 6 speed...

My buddy's lease on his Saab 9 3 turbo was up ( I've beaten that car soo many times) and he just got a brand new Maxima 6 speed. I don't know if the 2003's are out yet so I am guessing its a 2002. I have never raced one in the CLS before- it is 100% stock and so am I- he has maybe 300 miles on it. He wants to bet dinner at the Palm- should I do it? I don't think he can drive stick very well, he's had an auto for 3 1/2 years. Who do u guys think will win? I will definitely race him- the question is whether or nor to bet a $300 dinner on it.

if you had just tires...I'd say go for it...where he might spin at launch..or not wind out the gears enough...you very well could spin alot...on stock tires..

What are you racing to?? A owner with about 3 weeks stick experience was able to pull off 14.3 stock. The longer you wait to race him, the better the chances are you are gonna lose.

Is the stock Maxima that fast? 14.3 in the quarter? If true, thats a great deal! He is leasing the car with 6 speed and leather for well under $400 per month no money down! Well, I will race him this week weather permitting and I'll let you guys know what happened. I could always try going double or nothing and bring out the vette .

Race him in the Vette. I love the CL-S , but a stock auto CL-S is no match for a 6sp Maxima.

That 14.3 was stock. Intakes for the 2k2 add another 10 fwhp, which isnt a bad deal for 140 bucks. I bet a 2k2 with intake and great conditions might be able to pull off a 14 flat.

Well, I KNOW I am a better driver than this guy. I've been racing on the street (Fountain Ave) and also on the track for over 12 years. But I wonder how long I can hold off the Maxima. OK- say I clearly get the jump off the line and I am ahead by say 2 car lengths, how long would it take for the Maxima to pass me? I am trying to figure out exactly how long I should make this race.

0-60??

Id say that ur CL-S is about a 15 flat car by average. Id bet this guy can pull off a 14.8-15 now with sub par driving skills. If he can launch decent and doesnt miss shifts it could be a good race.

Wildwolf... I am gaining more and more respect for Vette. My friend just traded in his 02' Auto Vette for a new Red z06. I cant wait to drive it. He brought it by this weekend and I got to take a look at it, but no ride yet. The exhaust note sounds awesome!!

My mother has a 2002 automatic maxima. I've driven it several times and I have to say with the automatic, my car actually feels slightly faster, then again, I also have headers. With the 6 speed and a decent driver, I don't think an auto CLS will have a chance, but with an automatic maxima, I think it's a driver's race.

Nashua - did you get those times with just intake/plugs/and tires? I have the same setup, and i haven't been to the track yet but i would like to get a good estimate. I think I usually hold my own on the streets but i think the track will be a big difference. I hope i can acheive those time too....

There isnt much out yet for the 2k2 performance wise. The suspension parts mix with the 2000-2001. I would tell him to get an intake. It takes about 30 minutes to install and adds 10 fwhp.

Try... www.frankencar.com

So, have you run him yet????

BTW....my buddy has a stock '01 CL-S....I ran him from a dead stop to 80 when my '97 maxima 5-speed was BONE stock...I had a HORRIBLE launch...and we were still dead even to 80 (where we both let off)

I do give nissan credit, the maxima's are quick, but they're also heavy and they really shouldn'tbe able to keep up, this kid i know has a hooked up 2001 i'll race him and let you know

Heavy?!?! Even the new 2K2 maximas are LIGHTER than a CL-S or TL-S.....

my '97 tips the scale at 3010lbs.....I don't exactly call that heavy....

BTW...unless your friend has a 5-speed or a bolt-on auto...you should take him...the 2000-2001 Maximas (especially the autos) haven't posted very impressive times overall....the 4th gen (95-99) and new 5th gen (2k2) are the quickest years IMO.

The curb weight of the new maximas are almost 3300 pounds and the new cls is 3460 so if he's running 2 people and i have 1 its pretty much even. The older maximas are quick too but not as quick as the 02.

So tell me again how that makes the Maxima too heavy???

You don't have to lecture me on how quick maximas are...I'm pretty well versed in Maxima knowledge.

Run an 02 Maxima 6-speed with your CL-S 6-speed...not only will it "keep up"....9 times out of 10....it will beat you.

02 Maxima 6-speeds have run 14.2@99mph BONE STOCK...what about the 6-speed CL-S?? That's what I thought.

BTW- When you have to add weight to a faster car to compensate for the slower car's inability to keep up, that's not really a fair race..now is it??? What are you going to do.....only race Maximas that have more passengers in their car than you do?

Going by times that a correct statement.....Best recoreded Maxima 6-speed is 14.2 vs 14.8(C&D)

hey shmucko, why dont you do your research because the 03 cl-s with a 6 speed does 14.1@98 which is the exact same as the wrx and i know this for a fact buddy so dont get all high and mighty about your POS maxima. And btw the 0-60 time on your maxima is 7.4 and quarter mile of 15.3@89mph so i dont know where your pulling your numbers buddy

ok...we don't need to resort to name calling here....I don't know where you got your 14.1@98mph numbers....becuase I know for a fact that no one on this board has run their 6-speed at the track yet....

WRXs do NOT run 14.1@98 mph stock....I haven't seen a stock WRX trap over 94 mph...and the only way you're ever going to get a 14.1 out of a stock WRX is with a redline clutch dump which will rip the shit out of the drivetrain...and it STILL won't trap over 94mph....WRXs are NOT fast...they just have the ability to launch REALLY hard and therefore can run impressively low E.T.s with LOW trap speeds...

Don't go calling the maxima a POS...you're just going to get yourself into trouble...it shows ignorance and immaturity.

WHERE THE HECK DID YOU GET 7.4 0-60 and a 15.3@89 1/4 on a 5-speed maxima??? ANY stock 5-speed maxima since 1995 has been able to hit 14s....go and look on the maxima.org forums if you don't believe me.

You really need to learn WTF you're talking about before you get all high and mighty on these boards...

believe what you want....I ran my buddies CL-S from a stop to 80 when I had just gotten my 97 5-speed (stock) and with my horrible launch..I was still dead even with him.....97 5-speeds have run 14.7 STOCK....If you don't believe me ask over at maxima.org

BTW...keep ON topic...we were talking about a 2K2 6-speed maxima...NOT a 97....

Here I"m on Acura-cl.com and look the Cl-S 6 speed does 0-60 in 4 flat and runs low 12's in the quarter.....so let someone read this and go aronud saying thats how fast it goes. Nice job buddy, nice job

What the problem with me being here? Your immaturity shows more and more as you talk. Go tell tell others about you "dream" 14.1 run. Wthout a vid/slip thats all it is.

What's there not to believe? The autos dyno the same as the 6spd Maximas so the 6spd Type-S should dyno more than the 6spd Maxima. But the weight difference of 150lb is what will tell the truth.

A 14.1 is very possible, but I won't believe it till I see the slip as well. I see alot of 6spds running 14.2-14.5 in the Maximas, and autos running 14.7-15.2. The auto cl-s with good drivers stock run 14.7-15.1.
