Braking???

Hi, I had my cl and I drove it about 200 miles. The thing is the brakes are kinda strange. The way to describe it would be it's really hard and when I brake to a red light or something I have to push down pretty hard, is this normal? or is it all in breaking in the brakes so it's smoother. Any replies would be appreciated.

I had my cl for about 500 miles and the brakes suck. I have been reading magazines and stats, it seems like our braking power does suck, from 60-0, it takes us about 10 extra feet to stop from most other cars.

Me and my baby have been together now for 20,000 miles. My brakes are okay, but have your rotors replaced with the newer models (unless you already have a 2002 model). They are about 50 dollars from your dealer and help subsantially. If you want ffirmer feel, the Comptech stainless steel brake lines also help alot. BTW yaya, where did you here that it takes 10 extra feet to stop. Everywhere I read said 124 ft, wich beats the Infiniti I35 by 2 feet. And that car has EBD and BA. It obviously won't beat any Lexuses, cause Toyota makes fuckin hot brakes!!!! (60-0 in 108 feet for the GS430. )

I beleive the pads are $50, I think rotors would be a bit more than that..

Try bleeding your brakes. It might help. You need two people to do it. One person sits inside and pumps the brakes about four times then holds it down. Make sure he holds it until you tighten the bleeding screw again. When they hold it down, you loosen the bleeding screw in the back of the caliper. Have a rag handy, it gets kinda messy. When you loosen it, brake fluid will come out. When most of it comes out, tighten the screw again. Do this to each tire and your brake pedal should be a bit harder.

With Mityvac its a oneperson job to bleed brakes! But of course if you don't have one! I also like to use clear jar to visualize when all of the air has been bled out. To completely replace fluid at specified maintenance intervals would need a quart jar to completely bleed out all fluid! Just helped my son do a brake job on his VW Safari van and now it stops better than ever! I have yet to find time to replace brake lines with teflon coated SS lines that are sitting in garage! Sure they will help and eventually replacing pads will also improve brake feel and stopping distance!

The extra pedal force was the first thing I noticed on my test drives. That's just the way the car is. The brakes are still strong enough to trigger ABS on dry pavement. You just have to push harder.

Brakes on the CL-S

Strange. I'm of the opinion that braking fells VERY Good in our Car, but then again, the car before this one was a 1986 Honda Accord with Warped Rotors @ 208,000 miles on it.

Guess anything feels better than that.

Still I'm completely satisfied with the Braking!

typesaddict, i dunno this is what i got from msn carpoint reviews

CL : 5-speed automatic
Engine: 3.2-liter V6, SOHC 24 valve
Horsepower: 260 @ 6100
Torque: 232 @ -2000
Acceleration: 0-60 mph in 7.2 sec. 1/4-mile in 15.3 sec.
Top Speed: 130 mph
Braking: 60-0 mph in 135 ft.
Road Holding: 0.80 g.

Now that I think of it, their numbers seems all wrong, everywhere else i read, 0-60 is only 6.4 to 6.6 never did i read 7.2. Top speed 130mph?? i personally have already proven that it goes to 145 at least. So maybe they made a mistake.

Wow, they are off. Their accelaration, top speed, braking, and road holding are all substantially slower or less impressive than the true numbers.

Carpoint was long ago dismissed as a bunch of dumbasses. Edmunds has some idiots writing for them too.
