brake shield needed?

i'm about to replace my rotors and calipers and was wondering if i should just leave the brake shield off (#17 below).

anyone running without it? any problems? benefits? i bet that the rotor would cool better since it will have more air flow from the back-side.

i took it off, cause of the rotora bbk. So far no problem. I also heard with the dust sheild off, your rotors will run cooler because of the lack of the shield

The shield also keeps water and crap off the rotor. I'd leave it on.

i'm runnin rotora bbk w/ no shields also. the shields don't really fit properly with the bbk, so they're long gone.

the guy might have cut the dust sheild. Cause there is no way you could have the bbk and the dust shield.
