Brake rotors warped
Brake rotors warped
I have a 2001 CL-Type S with less than 20,00 miles on it and the brake rotors are warped.
Are then any recalls on the brake system?
Is the brakes' rotors under warranty?
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

My understanding was that the problem with the rotors was actually "bad pads", the OEM rotors are OK (after getting mine replaced on the TSB at around 23,000 I haven't experianced any brake problems (now at 97,000). YMMV

Look at note right next to warranty claim info.
Warranty on brakes is something ridiculously low.
And for some people who already got that goodwill change that didn’t help (my self including)
This ain’t going to help.
Good find thought! And thanks for posting it.

Warped Rotors-Resurfaced rotors ONLY-Same pads
Brought CL Type-S ('01) in for warped rotors. Mentioned TSB, service writer said, "With less than 20K it is covered under warr." BUT
Well, they only turned the rotors AND the paper work said, ONE TIME GOODWILL. I didn't read it until I was home.
I will have to go back to dealer and tell them:
1. This defect should be under general warr;
2. There is a TSB regarding this problem/defect;
3. The defect is BAD pads, not the rotors.
ANY SUGGESTIONS ON APPROACH WITH DEALER???
I will keep you all informed of results. Ernie

Inform them the TSB calls for the pads to be replaced. This is what really helps prevent the warping problem. I had my rotors resurfaced 3 times before I realized the pads were suppposed to be replaced at the same time. The 4th time I went in my rotors were replaced and new pads were installed. I've had no warping problems in about 25k miles.
When you actually think about it, resurfacing rotors and not replacing the pads is pretty stupid. When your rotors warp they are no longer a smooth, even surface. This is what causes the vibration when you apply the brakes. Now if a smooth brake pad is rubbing against a non even surface, part of the pad will wear faster than the rest because it is in contact with that particular spot on the rotor more often. So your pads are going to wear down unevenly. If your pads are uneven, when you apply the brakes one part of the rotor is going to be under more pressure than the rest because at that point there is more pad contact with the rotor. What does this lead to? Warping the rotors all over again. It's pretty logical when you think about it.
Most dealers are just trying to save a few bucks by not replacing pads. Go back to the dealership and inform them they did not follow the TSB correctly and you want your pads replaced with the updated pads. They are a less metalic pad and are easier on the rotors.
