Brake Clarification

Sorry Guys,

I did a few searches before posting. A while back I remember reading about replacing out our stock calipers for rebuilt Legend or NSX ones. The reason for this was it was a quick swap/upgrade to dual piston calipers vs our single piston ones. I am ordering some slotted rotors and was just curious. I tried to search for the thread again but to no avail.....any advice anyone has would be great. Thanks in advance.

Order the CL ones, they'll work just fine with the Legend/NSX calipers...I'll be doing this next week.

Any reason you when with these instead of Rotoras? Those are the ones I would recommend. And EBC pads. That's what I had on my CL when I made the NSX caliper swap.

Same quality but cheaper. So these will work with NSX/Legend calipers then? They are to original Specs.

They should work if they are standard CL rotors and pads. I cannot say for sure since I've never seen them before. I know that the Rotoras work since those are what I had.

Yeah, you can't link search results... they are only good (cached) for a little bit...

WOW, I had no idea this was even possible.

Those that have done this, what are your thoughts on it, do you like it, are the improved braking gains noticeable and/or worth it?

Does anyone have the part numbers for the Legend and NSX calipers that are compatible with the CL-S?

This would be an awesome mod rather than going full out and having to buy the brembo or other big brake kits and still have improved braking.

If I remember correctly, the ones that fit from the NSX were the ones on the 1997 and earlier NSX.

The Legend ones are a bit better. The pistons are bigger. Remember with the Legend calipers, you have to swap sides. The Left caliper go on the right and vice versa. The NSX ones are a direct swap.

Ravi, what about the rear calipers ? Can those be upgraded to 2 pistons too ?? I know Mr. Steve post pics showing 4 calipers in the "NSX caliper" thread that Sly linked... Guess I could PM Steve...

I've added a couple of links to the info thread on this topic... if anyone thinks of some more that should be added, post 'em up here:

Greenie, I don't think the rears will fit.

Based on the reading I did you would have to do way too much to get them to fit. I also asked one of the Acura techs that worked on my CL when it was at the dealership. He said he didn't think they would fit either. This was after he saw my fronts and did some searching on his own.

Also, based on the diagram below, the rears are a single piston caliper.

For the CL....

Seems like a hell of a lot of difference to me.

Here's a question for ya Ravi and those that have done the swap.

Is the changed brake balance a concern? Obviously the front is going to be a lot stronger than the rear, in hard braking conditions does that pose a problem?

None that I could think of. Your stock front brakes are already a lot stronger than your rears. Plus, a BBK will only be a bigger difference.

I liked Greenstuff pads. Those were pretty good.
