bought a cobra 03 need to drive in snow

Hey guys whats up I bought a 03 cobra, silver with 1100 miles on it the car is perfect. Very Fast

This car is nice not like the CLS but nice and raw POWER

I have a question about traction issues/in snow the car will not go at all in the snow i can not get up any hill at all, this is not my only car i have a work car that i can drive for personal use when the roads are really bad, i just need some tires for the rest of the winter what should i do I am only going to drive the car when the main roads are clear so i just need somthing for the parking lots and side streets????????????????????

Stock 17x9 goodyear eagle f1 GS 275/45 all the way around, these are summer only tires

so my queston is should i get sumitomo htr+ for the rear in 275/45 or maybe 245/45 ????????????????????????????????

or should i get snow tires like pirelli 210 snowsport???

Could i get buy with just putting these in the rear ??????

should i just get the tire rack package w/ pirelli and 17x8 rims

What would you do??

Thanks,

You should put snows or all seasons on all four corners if you are going to drive it in the winter. Handling will be real unstable with the summer tires on the front. With snows you want to go as skinny as possible. You could probably get a skinnier set of wheels used off of a lesser Mustang.

I would get some 17's off a GT and run 225/50/17 snow tires. My gf put WinterForce's on her Maxima and they have been great.

Good luck finding winter tires now though. :o

Remember, you cant fit 16's because of the calipers.

No, buy blizzaks for driving in the winter. Sumi's suck.

Make sure you take them off though, tread life is not long on dry pavement.

You could get away with them only in the rear, but I'd put them on all 4 corners. Regardless of tires, it's still going to be a bitch to drive in snow/wet weather.

Wider tires tend to ski in the snow, so actually thinner ones are better.

Blizzaks.

My advice is just get a seperate set for snowtires/rims for winter. And you dont need a 275 size tire in the rear, wider isnt better for snow.

Blizzaks. My friend has the same car and has them on his car and they work great

but follow Crazy's advice. get seperate set of rims for them and keep them narrower.

Buy some steel 16's w/ blizzaks....the only way to go w/ that much power. Also...move ur battery to the back if it isn't allready there. My friend used to have a rear wheel drive pick-up and used to put bags of sand in his bed in the winter. He didn't have four wheel drive and it worked pretty good. Try that...also nice choice on a car....now we need some burnout pics!!!!!

Yep, snowtires will help, but I never had any problems with my RWD v8 tbird with the stock a/s tires.

I don't know if you're trying to power up the hills with the wheels spinning, but I've found that if you get the wheels spinning you're screwed.

Take it nice and slow. It's not about speed, it's about momentum.

I have noticed that RWD cars w/ manual trannys have a tougher time getting around the New England hills with snow then autos do tho', but most of that is due to people not knowing how to "use" a manual tranny in the snow.

That's not a car that should see snow/salt. You should be driving a beater in the winter and preserving the Cobra... only taking it out in the Spring, Summer and Fall.

Blizzaks...I can honestly say my G with 17" Blizzaks is just as good if not better in the snow than my CLS was.

Word. Tires are key.

But then again buying a beater is more fun.

Yeah, here is what I would do. Go get your self an ok set of wheels for the Cobra. Then go and get some Blizzacks and put them on the wheels. Then get about 300 pounds of "tube sand" from Home Depot for the rear of the car. And enjoy.!!!!!!

Oh also, throw in a shovel and and set of tow ropes, cause you are gonna get stuck!!!!!

Flat out. Unless its pavement, the Mustang is a MusTake.... (hah funny, right?)

My Brother in law had a GT witht the17's and he went from stock tires to snow tires and then to studded snow tires. Trust me, the studs make a hell of a difference.. They just are loud on the pavement.

Go spend another $2000- $5000 for a winter beater ~ something like an awd Subaru w/4 snow tires & park the Cobra in the garage. You'll be happy you did.

my bro had an '02 V8 Mustang...thing never made it up our tiny little hill even if there was a light dusting of snow...

...as a matter of fact, neither did my mom's SLK 32, or the neighbors SL 500, or now I'm sure my S2K wont make it w/o some blizzaks...oh well...good luck outfitting your new ride, thing should be a monster once its equipped. :P
