both mufflers got holes in them WTF?

so i got my ct axlebacks today at 8pm (835$), installed them 2 hrs later once i got back to the shop (only took 40mins, including grinding off a bolt)

as i remove the oem mufflers I'LL be damned they BOTH have holes in them on the top facing the trunk from rusting out in virtually the same spot!! like wtf. the car always had this g35ish sound that i really just thought was normal... now i know why!! lol

i must have been losing a few poines off that no?? feels like 10 came back to the car. who knows.. that means i dynoed my car with those POS mufflers!!!

cause when i bolted on the mufflers and took her for a spin it felt a bit faster, and sounded more refined, but not louded... lol cause the CT's don't have holes in them i guess lol.

so has anyone experienced this?

i'm so glad I bought these cause I never would have found this out. but damn the ct's are HEAVY in comparison i say they way 2xs as much.

unless mine rusted out inside and weight disappeared ..

fitment is AMAZING tho i must say... bang on i am SUPER impressed. there is a bit of drone at low end in 5th but i LIKE it, reminds me i modded her

Damn that's expensive! I bet snow/salt got up on top of the old mufflers and just sat there. Who cares now you have a nice new set. Enjoy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the mid pipe isn't rusted out also. The oem mufflers weigh 14 lbs each. My tanabe ones weigh 16. I will weigh my ct ones when I remove them this month for comparison.

With the amount of salt we use up here I am amazed I havent had to replace anything in the exhaust. I do have the start of some bubbly rust on the passenger rear fenderwell.

I have some bubby rust just starting under the doors. You might want to take a look under them because you might have some rust there too.

Pretty sure the doors are fine. When I wash the car I always dry the door jams including the very bottom of the doors and they are still pristine. However I havent washed it in like 5 months.....

yea i got 2 bubbles on the drivers side... i think it's cause i rolled the fenders tho and the paint probably cracked under there and water seeped in i bet.

next time someone wacks into my car i'm gonna claim it under insurance and get the whole side of the car painted like i did last year... lol once the drivers side is done the car will b back to mintified... but that's a whole lot of hassle . i just wished it never happend.

u gotta rip off the paint by the way or else u just trap the moisture under there and then u get metal rot, not just paint falling off

Yeah i didnt roll the fender but I did have to trim the plastic liner because my tires were rubbing. I'm sure the extra snow/rain/salt right up against the metal definitely didnt help.

And yeah I almost wish someone would sideswipe my rear passenger panel so I wouldnt have to fork out a ton of $$$. Oh well, it is 9 years old and 174k miles.

Are you the original owner of the car? I've heard of idiots back in the day drilling holes in their muffler to make it sound louder....

no i've only owned it for 3 years but the previous owner was a businessman so the car was bone bone stock.

i'm going to ensure i get my car sideswiped on the drivers side this year lol..

ane if u get it done at acura the warranty the job for LIFE, so if that shit happens again it's freeee.

honestly the to spots used to piss me off but i was staring at them. no one notices them to be perfectly honest there's a lot of other shit to catch ur eye.

but still i want it fixed cause i know it's going to rot the metal in due time.

My rear passenger fender is rusted also. The other 3 fenders are fine it is just that one rear passenger one. Can it be a coincidence?

The first time I noticed the bubbling was way back in like 2005. Seems like an obvious defect to me. The machines screwed up on where to apply sealant or something. I asked Acura about covering it under warranty and they laughed at me in 2007 I believe. They didn't believe me that a 5 year old Acura could already be rusted out.

i dunno what the cause is really, but i do know it's just paint bubbling and if u keep touching it up with paint after uve removed the bubbled layer, u won't be harboring rust nd therefore will justr need to repaint it instead of weld metal on etc.

The rust is happening from inside/behind the fender and it's lip. The only bubbling I noticed was on that actual fender lip that you roll. There was no exposed rust visible from outside. When I went to have the fender rolled it just crumpled/collapsed so I will need work done eventually.

There are also 2 rust spots on the floor I have where the 2 floor sections connect in the rear seat section. Only reason I found those is because I removed carpet and sound deadening. It was under the sound deadening.

I have pictures of all these spots in my build thread if u want to see what I mean.

torontohonda.com it's the ONLY place in the province that sells comptech. besides it's not that expensive considering it's 735 or more with taxes for u if u lived in cali.. so considering i got it made, then shipped out here in 2 week, plus no duty fees for me. it aint that bad. so i think at least.

Yeah mine rusted from the inside out. The lip on the inside is nearly gone. I actually had a body shop cut out the bad, weld in replacement metal, and paint. It looked perfect for about a year and now the bubbles are starting to return. It was worth a shot for $500, but I'm not putting any more $$ into it. the cars only worth maybe $4500 anyways.
