Bmw M5 spoiler - perfect CL-S fit

While doing maintenance, noticed an 'unusual' strip-type spoiler on one customer's CL-S, which looked kinda cool... What it was is a current production bmw/M5 spoiler, which fits perfectly on a CL-S... I liked it so much that I am ordering one up ... I will do pics later and attach them if anyone is interested.

Curious if anyone else is aware, since the gent above found out about this while traveling on the East Coast...

danny25... looks awesome, thanks for sharing. They MSRP for around $289 at the dealer/West Coast - how do some get it at such 'great' deals ? The gent I talked to mentioned that the spoiler 'comes in' with 'sad quality adhesive' [his words], so he bolted his in with slight curvature to match the one on the trunk.

I do not think it will cover the holes that are drilled into your trunk from the factory spoiler.

hehe, thanks for the reply

Yeah, we have the Genuine BMW spoilers as well as replica spoilers. Right now I'd say the Genuine BMW lip spoilers are our best seller, and have been for about the last 6 months or so....

That is correct... they will NOT cover the holes... so if you wanted one you'd have to have the factory holes filled and painted after you removed your OEM spoiler....

Junior, I've got a question. What exactly is the difference from the genuine and the replica? Is there a HUGE difference? Should I even spend the extra $$$ for the genuine? I don't want to go cheap on my car you know, but I just would rather not spend $150+ on a dinky little lip spoiler. Please help me out. Thanks

Well, that depends on the replica. Some of the replica's are good, some are not. Some are flexibile, some are not. Some take the paint well, some do not and they chip and flake after time (could also be related to the paint job). We've had many people buy the Genuine BMW spoilers from us after purchasing replicas they had trouble with. This is also part of the reason it took us so long to carry the replica spoiler... b/c we wanted to research them to make sure we stocked good ones. So far, no problems. Something else to keep in mind... we've carried the replicas for some time now and the Genuine M5 spoiler is still our best seller, outselling the replicas by a 6-1 clip....

So the call is yours. Personally, I went with the M5 spoiler. I figured if it's good enough for the real BMW M5, it's good enough for me

hey i'm bringing this topic back up...

How exactly do you install the spoiler?? I got it painted today and I'm gonna install it tmrw. Obviously it has the tape on the back, but I mean preppin' it b4 hand. I know I wash the area w/ dish soap to get off the wax and dry it. Then, I believe some1 said to use masking tape to line up the spoiler? But I believe the spoiler goes RIGHT on the edge of the trunk, so what the hell would I line up? Next, it says to lightly score the area w/ steel wool?? Wtf does that mean, and what is steel wool? Then you rub the area down w/ rubbing alcohol and then dry it w/ a clean cloth...then you place it down.

Use masking tape to center it. Taping off the sides of your trunk for better alignment.

You do not need to score your paint with steel if you are not the anal type. Basically, it helps bond better with the paint and adhesive if you do. Just strip the wax in the area and you should be fine.

Good luck and post after-shots!

ohhhh ok...so technically ALL i really have to do is wash it w/ dish soap and dry it...then stick that shit down? (im gonna have myself & my GF do it so we do each side) is the 2 thin little strips of 3M tape gonna hold that shit down?? Also it seems a little on the thick side, so will it be a tad bit raised?

BTW, I'll post pics tmrw around 3 after I'm done doing it. The paint job looks PERFECT! I'll let y'all know how it went!

Correct.... it's shipped directly from BMW, therefore, it's ready for paint... but not painted.
