Blue-ish replacement bulbs and cops...

I was wondering if any of you that have put in PIAA 19169s, Polarg M6s & M14s, etc, etc, etc, have had any problems with cops since they have that blue-ish look to them when they're turned off. I want to change my bulbs ASAP, but I don't need the hassle of getting pulled over for stupid things like this and we all know that cops can come up with the most ridiculous excuses. So have you all been getting hassled much, especially by South Florida cops, or should I just go ahead and change the bulbs already?

I guess if it's DOT approved as it should. Look for the PIAA housing case or the instructions sheet, if it says it's legal, DOT approved, show it to the cop. I keep mine in the glove box.

Im not sure about south FL but the cops around me dont care at all about this stuff. I had superwhites in my turn signals for alitte and never had a problem. I also had Naxos xenons in my headlights and was pulled over for speeding but not a word about the lights. I have even see a car turning left at a light with green (yes green) turnsignals and a cop right across the intersection and he didnt do anything but this is just my experience. I have read one post i believe about a cop hasseling a guy cause his bulbs looked blue turned off but thats it.

Good idea, I guess I'll have to do the same. So I take it that the PIAA 19169s, which you use, are DOT approved, right? But what about the Polarg M14 and M12s? Or what are some other white bulbs that are DOT approved that I can use to replace the turn signal/parking lights? Does PIAA offer any?

well-i wouldn't worry about it-just turn the lights on for the cop and show that the lights aren't blue. man, if the guy is checkin out your car that close in daylight-he's prolly admiring it.

go for it.

I have the 19169 package in front of me. It doesn't say "DOT approved" anywhere on the plastic box But, I seriously doubt you have anything to worry about(I've never been hassled before). I should know because Vancouver cops are infamous for hassling imports. Just a little while back at one of our local meets, 90% of the cars that showed up were issued "Vehicle Inspection" tickets. One civic even got a VI for having his exhaust too loud. The funny/sad thing about it is that the civic was totally stock and parked with the ignition off

I wasn't too worried about the road lamps, but more the turning signals. These bulbs do stand out a bit more with the blue tint. I guess I'll just have to try them out, if I get hassled I'll take them off.

I was in Tampa all Christmas with the 19169's and I didn't have a problem. As a matter of fact, when I was stopped here in OK, the cop went all around (looking for something I'm sure) but didn't say anything about the M6's I'd replaced the PIAA's with either.

I got pulled over for having bluish bumper lights, I don't know what kind of bulbs they are, I didn't install them. The cop told me that they had to be white or yellow, and that mine were too blue. He said the lights had to be both DOT and SAE approved or they were illegal. I think it was only cuz it was 3am on a Saturday night in a small town.

BTW, I'm in northwest NJ.

dont worry about it.. MOST of the cops wont pull u over for the signal light bulbs.. but if they want to pull u over.. then even tho u have orange bulbs, they still will.
u know acutally u dont have to spend that much money 2 get PIAA signal light bulbs... cuz it doesnt make any difference... i got mine for like 3 bucks for a pair... ( they might burn out a lil bit faster but who cares, it s just 3 bucks)

Yeah, I'll probably just get some cheaper clear white bulbs just to avoid the hassle of trying to explain things to a cop. By the way, nice ride oonowindoo, that's how I plan on having mine look, except that I want to get the PIAA 1100 driving lights, which are also small, but round.

If you have hids and put the polarg or piaa bulbs in they won't care. they'll just think its stock since we have hid headlights. Also its really hard to tell there even on from far away cause our hids are so bright. don't worry about it.

BUt if you put the blue bulbs in accords or civics taht don't have hids'THEN that's problem.
