I don’t see a Subwoofer listed in your signature.
It sounds like you put too much LOW end power into the 6X9’s.

Get a Sub (or two) and put a crossover on the replacement 6X9’s to block some of the BASS and you shouldn’t have the problem again.

You could, but then you would lose some output to the speakers (and I am thinking if you reduce it by the amount that you need to, to prevent them from blowing again you might as well take them out because it won't be doing you any good). To be honest with you this might get a better response if posted in the Audio Forum.

I would advise a couple of things to get the most out of it (it will cost more in the beginning, but will save you serious money in the long run since speakers even cheap ones, if they need to constantly be replaced will get seriously expensive).

-Get a sub, and like posted previously filter out the low end to the sub, and away from the 6x9's.

-When you do get the replacement 6 x 9's I would replace with what you have up front (try to keep the components the same). The rear is basically for rear fill only, but this assumes that you have a sub to cover the low end of the frequency spectrum. So I would still suggest getting a sub (not a very big one, say an 8 or so) if you want to go the low end option, but if you don't want to do that, the next step is to get some 6 x 9's that can somewhat cover the low end for you.

If you go with crossovers, you NEED a Sub otherwise you’ll be missing the lower frequencies.

Example:
If you cross the 6X9’s at 80-100 Hz, frequencies below that will be blocked and sent to the Sub.
Without a Sub, you won’t hear the LOW BASS notes at all.

Or, turn the BASS down a bit and don’t push it so hard.
100-Watts full range into a 6X9 is asking for trouble.
