"Sony counts on racing video game to increase Playstation sales"

Sony is counting on Gran Turismo 3, a video game that puts players behind the wheel of cars such as the Aston Martin Vanquish, to win customers for its Playstation 2 console before Microsoft and Nintendo introduce competing systems.
Gran Turismo 3, heralded as one of the 1st games to showcase PSII's processing power, is expected to bring the console back into the spotlight after production glitches and mediocre games slowed sales, analysts said.
Gran Turismo highlights the advanced features of PSII, including realistic graphics that show light reflecting from raindrops. Players can choose from among more than 150 cars. Sony will sell the game in a package with PSII console for about $330, or $20 cheaper than the cost of both items purchased separately.

 

When the PS2 is a reasonable price, like $200, I'll buy one. The thing's over a year old and they're still asking full price for it. Get real.

i remember it was $400 right around Christmas time, so it's just a matter of time b4 it gets down to around $200...not sure if will reach $200 by Dec, but we shall see how PSII fares against X-box and GameCube.

 

I'm just waiting for the GT3 emulator.. I'm not buying a console to play 1 game..

 

You'll be waiting a VERY long time. Not all games can be played with emulation, so you know. GT 2 was not playable with bleem.

I think it's going to be a while before it's $200. I can see it going down to $249, but that's probably the lowest it'll go. You have to remember that it's also a DVD player. $300 for a next gen game console / DVD player is a very reasonable price. Go ahead and buy an Xbox and a DVD player seperately... bet you it's more then $300. Plus, GT3 is sweet.... I've been dragging my ass around work b/c I've been up late since Tues. night playing.....

 

ha!! cool...is the CL Type S the same as in real life?? can u use just about any car when u're messin around, not getting licenses and driving in championships, just like the other GT's, but better b/c of better selection??

 

There is a limited # of cars you can use in each class when messing around with the Arcade mode, single races, etc. The CL-S isn't one of them. You have to buy it in Simulation and it's around 32k credits and you only start with 18k. There are sooo many races and championship cups that you win so many cars. The game is great. I've played on and off the last 3 nights and I'm only 2.3% through the game!! But the weekend is coming so I'm sure that will change....

if you think the CG in "Final Fantasy" the movie is ill wait till you see the opening scene for GT3

i have a toyota sprinter or someshiet right now aiming for my CLs...taking a while though

fuckin hard to get licenses as well

i was lucky enough to borrow a PS2 for the summer from a friend but highly considering to buy one

 

two games that kick ass for playstation are ssx a must have and gt3.. any body play twisted metal black yet... loved twisted metal two..

 

Yea GT3 is a really phat game. I cant stop plaing it since i bought it. How many of you guys remember playing Mario Kart back in the day?

 

I played all night last night and decided against buying a CL-S and bought a bigger turbo for my Miata...

The game rocks, coolest features have to be the lighting effects and heat/wet lloks from the track...

 

Sure it'll be 200 bucks...when PS4 comes out with GT5

 

GT2 can be played via bleem. I'm running it on my dreamcast as we speek.

 

I bought a CL-S as soon as I had the credits and upgraded the hell out of it. I got to the world cup in the beginner stage and I easily beat the competition for 10K a race. I saved up all the credits and bought a Mitsu 3000GT VR-4 and then spend another 140K on upgrades including an 80K turbo. The car is maxed at 1008 HP and 1/4 mile is right at 10 flat. I haven't found a car that can touch me yet... I'm saving up for another car and so far I have about 150K. Any suggestions?


BTW, I am 12.3% done with the game. I bought it even though I don't own a PS2 because my friend brought his over for no reason.

Hell, I can't get enough money to get passed my 200HP Miata. Damn Acura's are to expensive.

 

Hey I have acouple things to say on this one. First playstation was worth my inviestment, and I already have a mod chip and any game aslong as it is not a DVD based games I can copy and play Second, I am a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley, and personally own Sony stock (SNE), I tell you what hurts, watching the stock fall from $85/ share on 5-21-01 to an astonishing low of $56.11 on 7-11-01. Now that is hard to stomach especially given a time frame of just a month and a hlaf. OWCH!. Anyway, I don't think even GT3 is going to help the stock price anytime soon. Playstation is just expected to turn PROFITABLE as a unit this year! But hey I invest in what I buy (You should try GT3 on a 36" SONY WEGA)

 

Me to all I have is a PT Cruiser. I modded it and now it has 240 hp, but it still handles like shit. Can't get any money to buy the CL-S

 

i work in Research for Merrill Lynch in NYC, which is y i managed to see this story on Bloomberg this morning sorry bout your Sony stock...the story on Bloomberg didn't sound all that convincing where GT3 was gonna singlehandedly pick them out of the gutter...o well...good game, tho

 

I had an rx7 with 460hp and sold it for a lancer which has 420hp, running a 12.3.... the second race in the beginner champ. is an oval and is easy... 10k per win...keep doing that and youll have money in no time... the cl-s is ok... i used it in the ff races and won all three easilly
