is this bike gay?

looks like a 1200 sportster---which my brother just bought. Definitely not gay. This kind of bike is not my taste though, too rough riding at idle, too loud and not really all that fast. But its a Harley. I just picked up a 2001 Triumph Bonneville (800 cc vertical twin). Very nice and reasonably priced--you just need to like retro styled bikes.

Damn acura_service , your Aprilia is tight....
As for the Sportster, no comment.
Mine can't compare, but here they are. The one is in the front is a 1980 Suzuki GSX750 that was sold to make way for more bikes in the future....

Ride a Harley
ride the best
go a mile
and push the rest!
Sorry I still to this day carry Harley spark plugs when I ride my Suzuki because invariably I find some poor Harley rider stuck with fouled plugs.Harleys are cool bikes but it is an image machine not much more ,they do not handle stop or go but If looks is all that matters well I guess go for it but bring tools.Jens

I am so tired of hearing people critique Harleys. Most who criticise Harleys would be at the dealership if they could afford them.
As far as image machines, what the hell is a GSXR???
Man! My HOG must be pretty damn close in value to a
2000 Honda Civic mildly modified,1992 Mazda Miata heavily modified,2001 Suzuki GSXR .
LOL
Why, I guess I am entitled to a little criticising myself...

Seriously though, when I hear the name Harley, I think of a slow, loud, up right style (which I really, really hate) motorcycle with a 40s old white man on it. When I hear GSXR, I think "oh shit, that is one fast, sleek, hi-tech bike". As for price, a good Aprilia or Ducati costs just as much as a Harley does. If I had 18k to spend on a bike I would run out and get an Aprilia becuase it offers more for the price than a Harley.

I think you mean 'thrust'
And the big word as always is IF...
Get the 18K, then get back to me on what you buy with that money.
Also, any time from now to 3 years time, who do you reckon would get back more their money on the bikes???

That bike is gay, what are you thinking? Go for a real bike like the aprilla, or you can opt for the cheaper yet faster Yamaha R-6 like I did. Its worth it.

Another local bike designer is Paul Yaffe. Here's one of his bikes:

99% of the bikes out there dont really look GAY.....Its the driver of the bike that makes it look gay....So as long as you're not wearing a leather jacket with some tight nutt huggin jean shorts with strings hanging off the bottom then you'll be fine

i went to see the new triumph bonneville america and i like it also maybe even more so then the sportster, but i am concerned with their reliability and resale value. here is a pic of it....so now which one looks better is the dilemma.

Re: the Triumph Bonneville---too early to say anything about resale....reliability seems to be there and Triumph dealers have been pretty good about standing behind their product. Seem far removed from the reliability problems of the 1960-70 vintage bikes.

Hmmmm maybe you are right a new Harley is probably worth more than all of my vehicles but that does not excuse the fact that Harleys are slow non handling non stopping no ground clearance having loud machines that leak oil.So would I pay 18 large for a HOG? well HOG is another name for pig and I like my bacon in the frying pan or in the bank not wrapped up in an image.Jens

the triumph IMO has some more exclusivity than the sportster since they are only importing 400 of them.
right now i am leaning towards the bonneville just for the respect factor!

Wow, some diverse opinions. I got bitch slapped, and accurately described all at the same time.
Jens, you are thinking about pre-1984 Harley's when AMF owned them and they had to be rebuilt when you bought them. Harley's don't leak oil, they just mark their spot!
When you get older, (yes, like me), speed and the driving position of a sport bike is not conducive to fun riding. I don't mean canyon carving. I did a lot of that when I was younger on my 87 Suzuki GSXR750. You talk about a rocket. Here was a 110HP bike that weighed 380 lbs ready to ride!
I gave up riding until I rode a friend's Harley and I had a blast. I bought his and rode it for 10 years. I paid him $10,000 for it. I sold it 2 years ago for $12,500. My ex convinced me to give that one up. After my divorce, I bought another. I bought a 91 FXR Low Rider. It's black and a great ride. It doesn't leak, it IS loud, but I made it that way. It is a great way to give yourself a mental douche'. I have never fouled a plug. I only had a dead battery. Harley's used to be fairly simple machines but as they have to live up to the same emissions laws that everyone else has to, they have gotten higher tech with electronic ignition and fuel injection and even fluid cooling!
I don't particularly like the new V-Rod as the dealers will gouge anyone who attempts to buy one. Give me a Fat Boy, Night Rider or WideGlide anyday. Ye who dismiss Harley's need to ride one of the new 88CI bikes with counterbalancing for a smooth ride. If they are so bad, why are all the Japanese bikes trying to copy them? Vulcan, Intruder, Valkyrie, etc.
And Honda's GoldWing? You must be kidding! That thing is half a car. Those who love Ducati's and Triumphs, I am right there with you. Nothing like a highly tuned and tweaked Duc!
