I want to Tint the windows in my 98' CL 3.0. What is the best brand of film to use? I want to have this done at a professional shop. Know any good ones in the Denver area?

What tint % do you recommend? I am looking at either 30% or 15%.

Post any pics of your cars please.

Formula One is the best film there is right now. Expensive but well worth it.

Next choice is Lumar.

What about SunGuard? My local tint shop uses it.

The guy that tinted my prevous car and my CL-S used 3M tint. Never had a problem with fade or peeling. He did it for around $180. It is nice and black...none of that purple stuff. I can find out the specific tint name if you want.

I strongly believe that darkness on a tint is more of a matter of personal taste. Go with whatever you feel like to the point that you wouln'd be harrased by the cops.

As for brand...again I guess it depends on the shop you go to. Not all shop carry the same brand, and I doubt anyone is willing to drive long distances just for a specific tint. As for me personalyl I went with Madico Onyx tint (metallic).

You can look them up here. They have a lifetime warranty, so no turning colors, bubbling nor peeling from them.

I have always gotten LLumar tint. Had 4 cars with it. No problems. I heard 3M is good too. I never heard of Formula One, or Madico before.

I've got the SolarGard HP Charcoal on my car now...the SolarGard Quantum tint is their high end and is probably thicker than the stuff you find from Llumar. I had SolarGard Quantum on my old GSR and it was great, but it has more of a metallic sheen to it. The Charcoal does too but it's not that pronounced. I like it and will probably stick with that tint on my future vehicles.

I have had just about every different tint on all the cars Ive had. On my CL I have Sunguard and I can't recommend it. Its not bad but it just doesn't look premium tint. I had Llumar and its similar tint doesn't fade but still doesnt do it for me....IMO 3m is the best looking it has a RayBan type of look from the outside that looks like premium tint. Not only that but all tints fade after a while but 3M fades to a darker shade of black looks even nicer with time.

Is SunGard really that bad? I know a few CLs on the board in my area who have it and it looks pretty good. They got it from the same place I plan to go and I have a good deal with them. All they offer is SunGard,

AgentDSS:

I don't think so. I have SunGard on my car (just got it a few weeks ago). SunGard on my mom's MB S430. I think my home windows are also tinted SunGard, not for sure though. So far no flaws. I'm satisfied!

Plus, lifetime warranty! I don't see any flaws (haven't read thoroughly the other posts - busy studying for exams now...)

You should be happy with anything that offers lifetime warranty. Just shop around for good deals and reputable installers. I went with Llumar only because the installer was the only one in my area who has been open over twenty years. So far, so good on the tint, too. I have a couple of bubbles in the vinyl they used to cover the dots on the back windshield, but I'll get that fixed at no charge.

SunGard is quality stuff that shouldn't fade, purple, bubble or crack. 35% is good. I got 50% sides, 35% rear, and I wish I'd just gotten 35% all around.

JRock: I'm planning to goto Nat'l Glass Tinting in Kensington like you and Mark did. I got a good deal of $139 because I mentioned Mark got that price because of his referrals. I'm planning to go 20%! all around.

I want to say that it was 3M panther tint. Anyhow, I have had complements on it. The only "problem" that the tint guy had was the black textured line of dimples at the top of the rear window that comes from the factory to protect the back seats from the sun a bit. I guess that it was a real pain in the @ss to get it to look right since the tint won't be touching the glass at that point. Once I clean the car (darn New England weather) I will post pics.

I watched a professional for a while. I've done a couple of windows and they haven't came out bad. I had my cl done at a place. I would be nice to know how to do it though. I'm a man of many trades.

35 is the legal limit in MD, but I'm planning on getting 20%. Honestly it depends on the area the type of police attention your going to get. I have a feeling illegal tint will only be fined if you are pulled over for speeding, wreckless driving, etc.. I think in my town that a cop would not pull someone over just for a tint violation, but I think I have heard of some that have, though the chances are low.

Just curious, why do you plan to get reflective/titanium tint? I have a Black CL and feel a silver/reflective tint looks out of place on the car. I think Black/Smoke tint on a Black car makes it looks very clean and sleek. Just look at that other guy's Black car in this thread, it looks very sweet.

I was torn between the two, but finally decided on the traditional black. It makes the car look sleek IMO.

Llumar 20% Back / Back sides

Although windows are down in pic, I plan on adding 70% to the front (even tho I think CA law is none in front).

nothing right now... I get so much cop attention I was afraid to touch it, but I don't think 70 would hurt.

also... I think mirror only looks acceptable when done all around, much like peiqinglong has on his black CL
