Arrow Best Radar Detector..?

I've been looking through car magazines these past couple of days and i keep seeing these advertisements for radar detectors. They all claim to be the best, and i've seen reviews by different authors. I think the best reviews are the one's that the current owners have.....so with that being said, i want you guys to give your on what you own, and if you've owned for example like an Escort AND a Valentine 1, which one was better ???

Have fun guys, be as descriptive as possible

A lot of people here like the Valentine.

I bought an Escort for 2 reasons; less false alarms according to the reports and it was $95 cheaper. It does not tell you if the target is ahead or behind, but I don't worry about that. It does have a rear facing antenna so you do not lose rear detection.

Used it on a 3000 mile road trip last month and it worked great.

There have been several threads on this here - regardless...

Check out:

Good unbiased comparison of some of the top detectors.

I bought a Cobra XRS 9700 for $99 I am very happy with. And although it is having some issues (POP alerts for no reason, one lock up when detecting SPECTRE) it is VERY good at radar detection and has saved me several tickets already (what does this say about my leadfoot...). Besides, it is under warranty, so no worries...

Hope this helps!

I had an awesome Escort 8500 that saved my ass more than several times until it got jacked from my car. I literally never came close t othe speed limit and never worried. It was very dependable for me , and I will again buy one. (Hopefully soon!) I hear the next generation is even better too.

Lets get things straight on false alarms. What ever dectector being tested is using their auto modes where the detector decides what's real & what's false. It's software. I use the manual modes where I decide what's real & what's not. I also don't have X band in my area, so I have it turned off. X band gives the most falses, so I almost never get them.
That being said, I have used a 8500 & a V1. They both perform the same as far as I could see using them the way I do. The advantage goes to the V1 for the directional arrows. Being able to see where the radar signal is coming from is a great help. Is it worth the extra $$? I think it is.

The two best are the Escort 8500 X50 and the Valentine V1.

Both are about the same except the V1 has directional arrows and the X50 is about $75-$80 cheaper.

I bought the X50 and I always slow when the detector goes off. Get very few false alarms with the x50 when X band is turned off.

Read the fine print on that. That was my first detector. Only if you get tagged with radar. Anything else they won't pay. Only if you are going 15mph or less over the limit. Only if you get stopped for speeding & get a ticket for that offense. I was doing 40 over & the woman on the phone actually laughed at me. Not to mention the detector really sucks.

I have the full k40 system and it has saved me multiple times. Plus you can't beat the mounting options for the three leds that make up the display instead of having these bulky units to mount on the dash or the windsheild. My cousin has it too and they paid his $125 ticket. I'm am out gunned here though almost everyone loves the v1.

Well in TX its mostly radar, second of all I did get two tickets which were paid by K40 and if you were going at 40 above the speed limit you would have been arrested here in TX on the spot and thrown in jail. I know that I am the underdog but my K40 has worked for me.
