best cooling mods for performance

Hey guys, quick question. What are the best cooling mods out there for the CL auto not the 6spd. I know the thermoblock spacer kit is good, the spoon or mugen thermostat is also good, but how about the fan switch? Does the CL type-s auto have three fan switches controlling the fan or just one? If its just one will the prelude fan switch fit? If its three where do I purchase the fan switches? Any other cooling mods? Maybe a throttle body bypass or something? Let me know folks. thanks for the help

mugen mods: fan switch, thermostat, radiator cap
coolant: 100% distilled water with one full bottle of water wetter
thermoblok: selfexplanatory (comes with a throttle bypass)
JetHot coating on headers

I have all of the above and you can definitely tell a difference between night & day in terms of engine heat produced

Running plain distilled water is okay? I guess that depends on where you live right?

dude, i never knew it was safe to run 100% distilled water. I always thought you were supposed to mix a certain percentage of distilled water with coolant? Correct me if im wrong....if this has additional benefits i'll do it

how does the radiator cap help?

Yes, the prelude fan switch fits the CL-S. You should be able to bypass the TB with a simple male-to-male hose adapter.

Okay I understand the distilled water, cap, TB bypass, but how about the fan switch(s)? Is there one fan switch or three? Also which thermostat is the best? The spoon or mugen thermostat? And does anyone have all these part numbers for the fan switches and thermostats?

One fan switch, not even sure if Spoon has one for us. I'm pretty sure nobody has tried it.

Mugen IMO. There is only one fan switch, it is located above the lower radiator house immediately below the throttle body.

Running distilled water is okay weather permitting. It's 95 degrees here in SoCal . I run water wetter also to prevent any problems. Since distilled water is 100% h2o, no minerals are presents to f* the engine. Besides, water+wetter has a higher heat capacity than any coolant out there.

The radiator cap allows the system to pressurize at a certain kPSI, I believe a slightly higher one than the stock cap.

For running distilled water, I recommend shorter change intervals. Keeping it in a car too long will do more damage than good. Rust, etc.

1.3 compared to 1.1 for stock.

Spoon does have one, though I'm not sure of the part number, I do know typeR has it.

Ok i know(as explained above) how the rad. cap works in helping the cooling prosses. I guess higher pressure helps?
BUt how does the Fan Switch help and function? Same goes for the Thermostat..
Thanks

Fan switch turns the fans on at a certain temp.

The mugen t-stat opens at a lower temp, cycling the coolant at lower temps.

does this really benefit 1/4 miles times except for letting the engine run cooler bcos i dont think it makes significant HP.

dustin, you think running the spoon tstat would be a good idea in our area? It opens up at 65C and fully opens at 70C versus 68C/81C for the mugen. Both fan switches (mugen and spoon) operate at 80C

are u sure!!!

are u sure, dynoed facts!!!! becos ur engine running cooler scientifically does not make more HP only as long as there is no factor contributing to heat buildup which is not the case for NA engines(lookin at the coolin or heating margin from normal operating temps), now if it were FI i had agree.................
becos of the compressed air / pressure

yes scalbert dyno'd it ...it happens because the computer will advance timing based on the cooler ECT

I don't see why not. The only downfall I see is that the fan will almost be constantly running. Although there are no documented pitfalls of using the cooling mods, I can only see that your fan will eventually wear out faster. But with the amount of times the fan is used, I see this as very rare.

hey man, so tell me. is this gain with a combo of cooling mods together and if so, which? or is this for the t-stat alone?

He's probably talking about the T-stat, fan switch, water wetter, and thermoblock spacers.

No, this was done before the Thermobloks even came about. Scalbert dyno'd the t-stat, fan swithc and radiator.
