Best brake setups
Thinking about a major investment in brakes for my cl-s. Working well with Comptech rotors, stainless brake lines and EBC greenstuff, but wondering how much better it could get. (And for how much investment)

I just have R1 drilled/slotted rotors with Axxis pads and my brakes stop me as good as I'll ever have to stop. You can ask that lucky bunny rabbit that got a second chance this morning as he nearly got squashed. I'm sure the more expensive setups destroy mine but if you're on a budget it's a great improvement over stock.

I actually spoke to someone else about the caliper swap, same results. I guess its a matter of preference, really.

ROTORA BBK FTW!!!
As was said 1 piston vs 4 piston, 11.9" ( I think that is stock size) vs 13" rotor, plain vs slotted or slotted and drilled disc, ss brake lines, curved vanes.

Thanks to all responders..... I guess it's a question of how hard I'll be using the car -
vs. initial cost and "look".... In researching BBK's it seems that they will not insure much shorter stopping distance on the "initial stop".... but will prevent fade if used again and again - mountain driving, auto X, racing etc. Rich L.

You have much more leverage with a BBK. If you have ever driven in a car with and without a BBK you will notice the difference. The reason that someone may not have a shorter stopping distance is if they lock up the BBK and then you won't have a shorter stopping distance necessarily. I recently switched over to a ROTORA 2 PC BBK on my 99 Accord and there is a huge difference over the stock setup. Last night I installed TEIN Basics on a customer's CL-S and I took it for a test drive and I pressed the brake and I realized the immense difference between upgraded rotors and a BBK.

Isn't swept area more important than the number of pistons (although they do tend to go hand in hand)? Doesn't BMW use single piston calipers on some/most of its cars, to good effect?

I find the stockers to work just fine. You just gotta be careful with wrongly tq'd lug nuts.
I even did an open track day with the stock brakes. They hated me for it, but they performed pretty well once they got warmed up. I think a nice clean & straight rotor and high quality pads are almost as important as how many pistons it has.
I have a buddy who has a lathe, and when I replaced my rotors I got him to cut off a thousandth or so, because the rotor was a little out of round from the mfr.
edit: Plus if you're like me and run 16's in the winter you cant use anything other than stock anyways.
