This happened New Years Eve. I don't know what year, but it looked like a newer one. He had a manual since I saw him roll back a bit at one light when I was behind him.

Next light I pull up next to him and wanted to have a little fun on the way to a friend's house. I revved my engine and got a 'look' from the driver in return.

Light turns green and we take off, I take him from the launch, I did an idle to 1000 RPM launch and was spinning all the way to redline (very little spin, but nonetheless w/ partial throttle). Second gear made the rear end of my car go loose since I nailed it perfectly and got about another 5 feet or so of spin w/ the tail going a little sideways. By this time I had about 1 car length on him. I hit third and approaching 70MPH and he seemed to stay where he was until the end of the gear where I pulled slightly (going at about 90MPH now).

Traffic light, we both stop. My V1 radar shows strong signal ahead and to my left is this T/A revving up going for another show. I rev right back at him and give him a thumbs up and smile.

Light turns green, he nails it, I don't. About 200 ft up, on the right side behind a wall lies a enforcer of the law. I don't know if he was caught by surprise or what, but the T/A was already at the next light taking a left turn by the time he pulls out. I quickly turn off (right turn) on the same street he did (also the way to my friend's house), I didn't want to be anywhere near this one. I checked my rear view mirror and see the lights turn on while the cop is pulling a left turn onto the street to go after my racing companion.

Nice car, stupid driver (no radar).

I would have told the guy that there was a cop ahead or at the very least not rev and challenge him and bait him into the trap.

He should know better than to own a 'muscle' car and have no radar and going around racing a 'family' car.

If it was a LS1 Trans Am, it probably came down to his bad shifting skills. A Trans-Am consistently usually can do the 1/4 in 13.6-13.9... A little faster than a 540 6-speed (unless you use NOS again)

I'm fully aware of what a LS1 TA can do. It was just plain bad driving since I took him off at the launch.

Drag racing on the local street is STUPID. Doing 70-80 in a 35-45 zone is dangerous and reckless...

I just think it is uncool to let someone get a ticket period. I don't understand why people enjoy this. All you had to do was signal to him there was a cop.

If there is some ass driving like a road-rage jerk0ff behind me, and the V1 says slow down, I provoke them, set them up for the fall.

I can totally see 540 six speed with a good driver take an LS1 with a bad driver. But needless to say, Ls1's are no joke. My friend has a 2000 z28 with jusk Borla and its an automatic with stock tires and it ran a 13.6. at 103mph I tried playing around with it in my CLS and it wasn't even close!

 

I would have hinted to the other driver something, not just feed him to the lions. That was pretty cold! I would have hated someone doing that to me.

Then again, we are not all the same.
