barking the tires from a 45 roll....

just recently i've noticed that from like a 45-50ish roll in d4 i can get the tires to bark when i go wot, have any of you guys experienced this in the 5at???? you guys think this could be a sign of 2nd gear slipping and the tranny's about to take a dump on me????

When it downshifts into 2nd? Yeah that's not good. I'm assuming your tires are still in good shape?

About a year ago I could nail it at 30 MPH and drop into 1st and bark the tires. Transmission died 3 weeks later. 2nd gear failure, not the clutch pack wear.

What is happening to make the tires bark? Is there some sort of delay shifting and more power is dumped to the ground all at once? I'm not sure why tire barking from speed at WOT represents an upcoming transmission failure. Can anyone elaborate on this?

Well, a rough explaination from what I understand...

Transmission gear spins, doesn't catch, finally catches (after slight delay), shocks the drivetrain =

So the gears are chipping away as they try to catch. Eventually heat builds up from the friction and the gear is destroyed. That must be the problem. So if the gear problem is 2nd why would jumping down to 1st be a problem? I would imagine it has a lot to do with how the automatic transmissions and their planitary gear sets work. I bet the 2nd gear affects the rest of the gears. I'm really curious as to why this one gear would fail like it does.

When my 2nd gear blew I also lost reverse and 3rd. The failure happened all of a sudden on a 3 -> 2 shift at 50 MPH. BAM! blew 2nd and 3rd and reverse.

That's some scary stuff. I can't imagine driving on the highway in California traffic and having that happen.

The car would still move, in 1st gear. I was fine to limp it down about 1.5 miles to a Honda dealership and wait for a tow.

I used to be able to do this. From about 50 in second gear I could hammer down and get the tires rip over fro a couple seconds , reason.............stock michelins with 45000 miles on them, now with the yokos on, can't do it. Hows the tire pressure on your car is it really high?

I honestly wouldn't be too worried about it, unless you can feel your tranny slipping or hesitating, then that's another story. I've kind of taken the attitude, as much as an inconvenience it would be, I bought this car to be driven a certain way, and if the tranny is not going to hold up then they are going to replace it, and at 100,000 I'm getting rid of it. So far 45000 miles and not one hiccup, and I drive this thing in SS 95% of the time even hwy.

I noticed that with the sucky stock tires I can pretty much light them up whenever I want (VSA off). In my case I know that it has more to do with the rock hard stock tires though.

Those stock tires definitely suck . Everytime I drove in the rain I would chop through the water from a start (this is with VSA on). I started too quick from a start on dry pavement one time and left half my damn tire. I'm much happier now with my Yokohama's.

I have gotten very used to my Pirelli summer tires over the last few months. They have NEVER given up during cornering no matter how hard I pushed them and they aren't foolproof for launching, but I've learned how to get the car to launch hard without having them squeal ..

in a month or two when it becomes too cold for these tires I'll definately miss them With intake\exhaust\headers\unichip, I can even get these tires to chirp the 1-2 shift .. I have a feeling the passenger front tire of my stock rims\tires won't last very long when they go on. And cornering will have to be slowed down a great deal. The car has way too much power now especially with the cold weather for the stock michelins.

Anyone know any decent and fairly cheap all seasons to replace with?
