Ballast Install questions/tips

I searched and most threads came up with questions of whether the problem was the ballast or bulb.

I am fairly certain I need a new ballast, so I got one and am looking for tips on the install on the passenger side.

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal?
- Do I have to take out the headlight completely?
- What else do I need to know?

Thanks.

Bumper has to come off and headlight has to come out. The ballast is bolted to the bottom of the headlight.

I pulled mine last weekend and this is what i found.
1) Pull off the front bumper cover.
2) No need to disconnect the battery. Just make sure you have the headlight switch off and no power will be in the circuit
3) Remove the headlight assembly. It's easier to remove the inverter that way.
4) ThinJim suggested that I seal the inverter using silicone and I would agree with that. This may help prevent future failures.
5) When you remove the headlight assembly, there are 5 10mm bolts that hold it in place. Two on the top and three on the bottom. The three on the bottom hold a bracket that aligns the bumper cover. Just note the spacing on that bracket so you set the bracket in the same spot.
6) Swap the inverter.
7) Before you reassemble, hook up the electrical connections and turn the headlights on to make sure it works properly.

This was perfect, thanks a lot

Replaced the ballast and I have beautiful HIDs again.

Also - For reference, I did a more thorough search and found this thread helpful.

I discovered one other item. Be sure to check your headlight fuses too. After I changed my inverter, my headlight didn't come on fully. It had a strobe effect to it so I figured that I had another bad inverter. Turns out that when my inverter went out, it popped the fuse too. What threw me off was the strobe effect of the light. Not sure where the inverter was getting it's power from with a burned out fuse

Inside the engine compartment on the passenger side near the firewall, just follow the diagram to locate the correct one.

They're the yellow 20 amp fuses on the passenger side of the fusebox.
